Playerunknown's Battlegrounds launched on Xbox One this week, and if early player figures are anything to go on, it looks like the console version is starting strong. Just a day after an unfinished version of the game launched in the Game Preview program on December 12, the Battle Royale-like shooter has attracted hundreds of thousands of players.

The latest leaderboard data shows a log of more than 496,000 players. This figure may not be perfectly representative of the game's active playerbase, as it could also cover alternate accounts. But there is no doubting that PUBG's console version is off to a fast start.

This early success is all the more notable considering that PUBG is unfinished. If you're thinking about playing, be aware that the game is a bit rough right now, with the Xbox One X version performing better than the standard Xbox One. Both systems fall short of performance on PC, according to an analysis, though this is likely to improve over time with patches. It's also worth noting that PUBG on PC is unfinished as well.

PUBG launched this week on Xbox One as a "console launch exclusive." It could come to PlayStation 4 at a later date, though no announcements about this have been made. The game will be available on Xbox One in the Game Preview program for a period of time before the full, finished release at a later date. Support is expected to continue for a while into the future, as developer Bluehole is using the games-as-a-service model for PUBG.
