'Thank you dad': Son shares heartwarming picture of his proud father walking him to his first day of kindergarten and college

  • The photo that Charles Brockman III, 17, shared on Twitter of his father walking him to school has gone viral
  • In one part of the photo his dad, Charles Brockman Jr, is walking his son to kindergarten and in the other part he's moving him into college
  • Charles III is now a freshman at Mississippi State University

The two pictures may be more than a decade apart, but some things never change - like the love of a father for his son.

And for Charles Brockman III, the best way to publicly honor the unwavering support of his dad was to post a photo showing his old man walking him to the first day of kindergarten in Texas and his first day of college 13-years later.

The heartwarming picture of the star college athlete has been widely shared online, along with its simple but true message. 'Thank you dad'

'Sometimes fathers don't get enough credit so I just had to pay it forward to him and thank him for all the years he's been there for me.'

His mother Sherry and dad Charles Jr., with whom he shares the same birthday, have been slightly taken back by the attention the photograph has received, but are very appreciative of the kind words that have come their way.

'At track meets, a lot of times I've seen parents go up to their kids or sons and be told, 'Don't touch me. Don't hug me in public.' And he hugs me. We tell each other we love each other all the time,' said Charles Jr. to NBC News.
