In his book 'Toilet Train Your Cat, Plain and Simple', he claims that it takes just three months to teach a cat how to use a toilet.
'We are an elite group, those of us who train our cats' to use a toilet,' Mr Brooks told the Washington Post.
'Most people say: "My cat can't do that".
'And I'm here to say all cats can do it.'
Training a cat is similar to potty-training a toddler, he said.
The book instructs cat owners to follow a number of simple steps - and to reward progress while ignoring mistakes.
The process involves placing a litter-filled insert on top of your toilet seat.
Then, when your cat has got used to using the tray, the size of the insert is reduced so that the hole over the top of the toilet appears larger.

The size of the insert can then be reduced further over the following three months. At the end of the training period, the insert is removed from the toilet entirely

'Unlike other kitty-training manuals with far-fetched promises, Brooks takes a realistic approach, advising readers to have patience and suggesting useful items to purchase or have on hand throughout the training process,' the author's webpage reads.
Mr Brooks said he is now working on a book about cat-walking and meditation.
