Mother releases heartbreaking pictures of her daughter’s transformation from a ‘fun loving party girl’ to a prisoner in her own body by Huntington’s disease

  • Becky Aspinall was only 20 when she was diagnosed with Huntington's Disease
  • Now 28, Becky has lost the ability to walk, talk and care for herself
  • Becky's mother Lisa Kelly, 46, said Huntington's was the cruellest of diseases
  • Pregnant at the time she chose to keep the baby despite a 50 50 chance of passing on the condition

Heartbreaking pictures show the ravaging effects of Huntington's Disease, dubbed the 'the cruellest disease known to man' by the mother of a sufferer.

Cruelly, the genetic condition usually starts displaying symptoms when carrier is in their 40s or 50s.

However, vibrant Becky Aspinall was just 20-years-old when she was diagnosed with the disease that causes rapid physical and mental deterioration.

Becky, a young mother, who was once the life and soul of the party, has been stripped of her independence and vigour.

Now Becky has lost the ability to walk, talk and live on her own, needing round the clock care.

She is even unable to look after her young son Alfie and move into a care home.

Huntington's disease is a hereditary disorder of the central nervous system which leads to a lack of muscle control and wastage, mood swings, personality changes and memory loss.

Children of sufferers have a 50 50 chance of inheriting the condition.

Sadly, Becky inherited her condition from her father who was diagnosed when she was only four-years-old and who later died in care.

'This disease takes everything away slowly - firstly your behaviour is affected then physical things start to go. I once heard someone say if the devil had made a disease, Huntington's would be it. And that's how I would describe it,' Becky's mother Lisa Kelly, 49, told the Mirror.

Adding that her once beautiful daughter who used to holiday in Magaluf and Amsterdam was a shadow of her former self, thin and stooped with broken teeth because she can no longer clean them.

In what was a harrowing realisation, the condition began to show in Becky after she fell pregnant with her son and doctors asked about genetic conditions in the family.

Not long after, Becky began to suffer the early symptoms - a twitching leg or slurred speech that was mistaken for drunkenness.

After being diagnosed, and still only at 20 weeks pregnancy, she had to face up to the possibility of terminating her pregnancy. She flatly refused, having already chosen her son's name.

Now Lisa cares from her grandson Alfie and stills dotes on her beloved daughter Becky, who has said she doesn't want to be fed by a tube once she loses the ability to swallow.
