An obsessed ex-boyfriend broke into his former girlfriend's home to steal her underwear after he saw her on a date with a soldier.

Kyler Brophy, 21, from Swansea, went on the rampage when he saw his ex-girlfriend, Chloe Rees, with Aaron Bond.

Swansea Crown Court heard Miss Rees, 20, had arranged for Mr Bond to pick her up - before Brophy appeared in the street holding a hammer.

Prosecutor Brian Simpson said the couple drove slowly past Brophy who kicked the car, fell over, and then threw the hammer towards it but missed.

They then drove on to another house to pick up a friend before Brophy and his father turned up outside.

Mr Simpson said Brophy was shouting and screaming at Miss Rees, before 'repeatedly kicking the passenger door of the car.'

'He caused the vehicle to rock and her to flinch with each blow,' he said.

Miss Rees and Mr Bond drove away but were being followed by the Brophys - so drove to Swansea Central police station and reported it.

In a statement to the court, Miss Rees said: 'I only feel safe when he is in prison.'

Mr Simpson said the attack in December was the sixth time Brophy had breached a restraining order against Miss Rees.

Previous breaches included once when he broke into her house and stealing her underwear, and another when he cut up her clothes.

Stuart John, mitigating, said Brophy: 'He seems to have an obsession with Miss Rees but he now understands he must put that relationship behind him.'

'He is emotionally unsophisticated.'

Brophy, of Swansea, admitted breaching a restraining order and criminal damage and was jailed for two years.

Judge Peter Heywood told him: 'This was part of a vendetta of hatred and jealousy.'
