'It's a lot of money to simply throw away': Tom Hardy 'loses whopping £2 MILLION in making new drama Taboo' which he created with dad Edward

He produced and starred in the gritty new BBC One drama Taboo about a revenge-driven adventurer.

So it will no doubt come as a blow to Tom Hardy that he has reportedly lost a whopping £2million in making the dark eight-part series.

The Hollywood megastar, 39, allegedly suffered the major loss after Taboo drew in £8.4million - which has not matched the £10.4million the show racked up to make.

A source told The Sun: 'These new figures will make stark reading for Tom.

'No matter who you are or how much money you're worth, £2million is a lot of money to simply throw away.'

The insider added: 'Tom will hope to eventually make the money back through DVD sales, downloads, streaming and syndication rights.'

The reported loss comes despite Tom setting up a firm Taboo Productions Ltd to manage the finances for the costly drama.

Uncovering a mysterious legacy left by his murdered father, he is driven to start a war of revenge- stuck between a warring Britain and America.

Tom has stripped off for several scenes in the series, and has also been seen in promotional shots in nothing but a loin cloth wading through a swamp.

Speaking of the more full-frontal and adult side to the dark drama with BBC Newsbeat, Tom said he wished there had been more opportunities to get his naked body in the final cut.

'You're lucky there was a loin cloth because I didn't want one,' said Tom of the much-hyped snippet of him wading through the swamp.

Meanwhile bookies have slashed his odds to 7-4 favourite on him becoming the next James Bond.

The twice-married handsome father-of-two played it coy, noting: 'When an actor says they want to be James Bond, their chances of being Bond are reduced significantly.

'So that's it, isn't it? I will never play James.'
