My question is, 'What is in Niger that the Feds think is worth a soldier's death?'

Google Earth the place. No shoreline, no plant life, no paved roads... It a big piece of nothing. It makes the Mojave look crowded. All that's there is a few starving muslims. And they aren't worth a brass farthing, even as fertilizer.

Remember the bruhaha over the “outing” of Valerie Plame? The whole thing was based on a story about quantities of yellow cake uranium being shipped out of Niger; possibly to Iraq? That may be ALL the meager country has, but it does have that; and probably other mineral resources, as well.

"That may be ALL the meager country has, but it does have that; and probably other mineral resources, as well."

The Clintons are just going to sell the ore to the Russians, and call the profits "a charitable contribution to the Clinton Foundation...".

Seems like a poor trade for a soldier.

I agree. But it was the illustrious CIC and brilliant Tactician Bathhouse Barry who sent our troops there. Rules of war include a plan of attack, criteria whereby you have completed your mission, and a plan of withdrawal. None of which existed. He wanted them there in hopes of getting some killed. As yet, there apparently has not occurred a proper situation for ending our presence there; now that we’ve stuck our nose in. Meanwhile, BO’s wishes keep coming true. Am I too cynical?
