Allen, who is leading a 13-person team on his 250-foot research ship, the R/V Petrel, said the wreckage was found at a depth of more than 18,000 feet.

Paul Allen? Didn't he die? What's he doing looking for ships? I would imagine that isn't exactly his bag.

"Wooo hoooo! We found the ship! Wooo hoo!"

A survivor, seen on the documentary The War, gave his account of that fateful night and the days that followed. Four days of Hell.

The skipper thought the was was over and wasn’t zig-zagging When interrogated after the war, the commander of the Japanese sub said it didn’t matter, the Indianapolis was so close he couldn’t have missed zig-zag, or not.

They floated in the water. Sharks would pick them off. A guy next to you would be there on second and then gone. The book was a tough read.

18000 feet. Compared to the Edmund Fitzgerald in about 530 feet at the bottom Lake Superior, the Titanic at about 12500 in the North Atlantic, and the Bismarck at 15719 feet also in the North Atlantic.
