One Confederate monument is gone and another is slated to be taken down at Forest Hill Cemetery after Madison Mayor Paul Soglin ordered their removal.
Soglin said in a statement Thursday that he directed city staff to remove a plaque and a larger stone monument at the Confederate Rest section of the public cemetery, saying, There should be no place in our country for bigotry, hatred or violence against those who seek to unite our communities and our country.

Paul Soglin has been Mayor of Madison for 20 of the last 44 years, in three intervals, 1973-1979, 1989-1997 and 2011-present.
Didn't appear to bother him much, until just recently, when he assumed the usual posture for Madison and got on his high horse.
Unless that bigotry is against whites, males, Christians, Asians and Jews, eh Mayor?
Like removing statues is healthy for race relations?
Another fool @ the feeding frenzy
I have serious doubts he has the authority.
What does that even mean in this context?
It’s already done. Unless someone starts a campaign to have the plaque put back, it’s a done deal.
I am so HAPPY that I moved out of that over-taxed, mean-spirited, Liberal Hellhole!
We were talking about this the other day, but let’s keep it going!

Pulling down the monuments over the graves of American veterans...
how sick does it get...
Did I spell ‘plaque’ wrong? LOL! I’ve got a dentist appointment coming up. *SMIRK*
Wouldnt be the first time the Yankees trashed confederate cemeteries
Ask the good people of Savannah and other southern cities
Seriously these dead soldiers were designated as veterans and pussies
dare tto defile their bravery by taking down CEMETERY plaques?
Maybe antifa wants to burn Atlanta again

Wonder what statute gives a mayor unilateral authority to take such an action.
I’d love to know the statute that gives him this sort of dictatorial power. Or did he just overstep his authority and everyone else just acquiesced.
This is a crime in my mind.
I will ask it again: How is it that Union soldiers and the loved ones of their fallen comrades didn’t hate the Confederates as much as modern “Social Justice Warriors?”
Excellent point!
The question is illuminating.
So these are monuments to the war dead? That is clearly not a monument to their cause, but to the men.
Defacing cemeteries is a line neither side should cross.
The mayor can just order the destruction of public property? And get it done in a day?
No process? No input from the community?
So can the next mayor order the desyruction of all MLK plaques - just like that?
“..dare tto defile ...
Yup, they do dare. Because no one is physically stopping them or confronting them.
The Nazis smashed headstones in the Jewish cemeteries in Germany, he’s just keeping up the traditions.
After all, the German American Bund ran Camp Hindenburg in Grafton before World War II; it makes sense that that area is still a Nazi stronghold.
Anyone please correct me if I have this wrong.
1. After his defeat and surrender, Robert E. Lee vowed to support the United States of America.
2. By act of Congress, Confederate soldiers were declared United States veterans.
This is how to work for unity. The Left is working for division, as always.
