Pro-Trump group to target GOP Sen. Heller over health care bill

A pro-Trump outside group is launching an advertising blitz against Republican Sen. Dean Heller over his opposition to the health care repeal bill — a bold act of political retaliation against a member of the president’s own party.

Heller, a Nevada Republican, is up for re-election in 2018 and is seen as one of the most vulnerable incumbents up for reelection this cycle.

The barrage, which will be orchestrated by America First Policies, a group run by many of President Donald Trump’s top campaign advisers, is backed by more than a million dollars, according to multiple sources familiar with the planning. Digital ads are set to begin running on Friday, and television and radio spots are set to launch early next week.

A Heller spokesperson did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The offensive was announced just hours after Heller declared that he would oppose the Obamacare repeal bill. Heller, said several officials with America First, has indicated privately to the White House that he is unlikely to get to “yes” on the current Senate version of the bill.

--------------------------------------------------------

Those involved with America First say the offensive is simply a ramped-up effort to keep Republicans in line – a role it has been hesitant to play until now.

"You do not want to mess with Donald Trump’s base in a primary, particularly in a place like Nevada,” said one America First official. “This kind of money in Nevada is real. … This is a beginning.”

The ad campaign will paint Heller as a “typical politician,” one of the sources familiar with the planning said, and will characterize him as standing with Democratic leaders Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi against the White House.

Helleris up for reelection in 2018 and is one of the most vulnerable incumbents.

I like this...wise up Heller and show some guts; we rallied the vote to win in Georgia and we can just as easily primary you out the door.

I can respect opposition to the bill if the purpose is in order to try to negotiate a better deal, and then sticking to that deal once it’s struck.

If it’s just in order to slobber over the liberal narrative, on the other hand...

Well.

Corker, Heller, Hatch and Flake are all up in 2018 and all voted for Rubio’s amnesty bill and all need to be replaced before they do it again.

Hoping President Trump makes sure Heller has Hell to Pay if he does not get in line for next week’s Senate vote.

All should be primaried next year except I’d hate to see Hatch succeeded by Mittens in Utah.
I realize Hatch is up there age-wise but Mittens would be a constant headache for President Trump.

What does this group think will be the outcome of Heller losing?

It’s an off-year election in a state that Hillary won.

You want Heller to be punished for opposing a bill that essentially keeps the framework of Obamacare while giving a $50 billion bailout to the insurance companies and more subsidies to low-income people, which will automatically be called Trumpcare and will usher in single-payer?

Maybe we can swap him out for Rick Scott in Florida and send him home to enjoy him contemplating.

There will cone a time something will need to pass and I say do what Steve Bannon said put it up for a vote and let’s see who wants to be known as the senator who voted against the Obamacare repeal

@semimojo: Exactly.

I have seen nothing to indicate that this revision to Obamacare is anything other than liquid bovine waste. Why nibble at the edges and take ownership of this giant turd?

ACA is failing. Better to let it crash on its own rather than get blamed for it. Unless as a RINO what you are really maneuvering for is national, restricted, death panel, health care.

I like a lot of what Trump is doing but his foreign policy and health care positions suck.

This Senate thing, of wrestling Obama care to the floor, requires getting the beast to Conference with the House, where negotiations will begin.

That can NOT happen until the Senate first coughs up something to send to the conference table. Get it going, Senate!

Dump Heller and get it going! Negotiate... or mess with Trump.
One or the other.

What is there to negotiate?

Republicans control Congress.

Many of these Republicans ran on full repeal and had no problem with pass repeal legislation when Obama was President.

Now you're telling me they need to negotiate with a minority party that holds the lowest level of power since the 1920s.

If Obamacare isn't fully repealed, we will have single-payer.

You can cover as many people as you want, but that doesn't equal care. Obamacare Jr. will further decrease the number of providers entering the healthcare market and will increase the retirement rate of doctors and nurses currently in it.

A bill to become law begins in the House. The HOUSE designs it. The HOUSE votes on it and if it passes they send their design to the SENATE. The Senate fiddles with it and re-designs it and the SENATE votes on their design.

If it passes, the bill goes to a conference table with the HOUSE and the SENATE to hammer out. Its the RINOS at war with Trump clogging the process with argument. The dems aren’t voting for it, period .

All bills do not have to originate in the house,
only those for “raising revenue”.
