Some of the first steps are taking place to dismantle the agitprop industry in this country known as 'higher education' and the traditional campus-oriented model of rounding 'em up and indoctrinating them.

Purdue University announced Thursday (April 27) the creation of a new public university that will further expand access to higher education. The initiative is meant to address two striking new realities: the need for postsecondary education for working adults and others unsuited to traditional campus study, and the explosive growth of online technologies as a means of delivering education to students of all types.

Online education will be the silver bullet. Is there anything taught in a university today that can’t be self-taught online?

Send your kids to state colleges that are within driving distance. Make sure their curriculum is for something that is useful only to get a good job. Let rich people send their kids to learn archaeology/anthropology etc.

Universities are the current breeding grounds for Marxism and Islamofacism.

While there is merit in your thought, there is discipline required to go to class. I suspect that many don’t have the discipline required for educating them selves on line.

It takes discipline to roll out for an 8:00. It takes discipline to roll out and drive to the local college for morning classes.

Oh yes, then there are the labs. On line labs?

“On line labs?”

I have always found the Women’s Studies Labs are best done in private.

Thats right, traditional “liberal education” is dead.
Now its all about social engineering and shaping students for a pre-defined “Utopia.” Its liberal fascism writ large enforced by alleged moral superiority and political correctness/outrage.

One of the few that is not that way:

If they lack discipline to educate themselves then I don’t want to hire them for any position of responsibility, which is what a college degree should be for.

Surgery?

Those that don’t have the discipline to teach themselves probably are among those who don’t even belong in college. They need a large dosage of ditch-digging to properly motivate a desire to learn.

At the book-learning level? Not much.

I’ve done a little research into what is available the last few years and it has grown exponentially.

Very easy. End the Federal subsidy. Universities will quickly respond to market demands.

Discipline?

I got more (enough for a lifetime) in the Army as opposed to four years and a major university.

The old “argument from infantilization.”

We have to have Soshasecurity because people won’t save for their old age. We have to have government school because parents don’t care if their kids get any education.

Repealing Griggs vs Duke Power Co. SCOTUS decision would really dent Big Education™’s monopoly as the gate keeper to employment.

I agree but I just can’t imagine a bunch of elected/un-elected grandees, who are largely the product of that system, cutting off funding.

The market may take care of the problem from a different angle.

There are those that have or can summon up the discipline. I would argue that many uneducated jobholders can better themselves by working for a degree on line while holding a real job.

I have in mind a specific person. He was twenty something. He was a forklift driver. He realized he needed education to advance. He had a wife and at least one kid. I lost track of him but suspect he would be a prime candidate for online education

While there is merit in your thought, there is discipline required to go to class.

As one who has had both online and brick-and-mortar classes, my experience is that discipline is required for both delivery methods.

Interestingly, today's brick-and-mortar classes have adopted a number of 'online' elements you find in online courses, such as: degree plans, course descriptions, course requirements, grades, online messaging between student & professors.

Son-in-law is about to finish his MBA at UofA Fayetteville. He only meets class one Saturday a month. Everything else is online.

Group therapy? Campus date rape? Anything involving physical contact with another human, like football.

If the universities wait for the correction you refer to they will cease to exist, IMO.
