The festival grounds were littered with barely-erected, unfurnished tents and piles of trash. The gourmet meals that festival-goers were promised consisted of sad-looking cheese sandwiches. I suspect a whole lot of those rich kids’ lawyers will be keeping the event hosts busy in court.

Folks who have never actually been to an equatorial beach see those photos and think it must be just paradise. You have to have been to these places to realize just what it is really like. 98 degrees with 99 percent humidity gets old real fast. The flies and gnats never seem to show up in the photos but they are everywhere when you are actually there. And they all bite. And the bites itch. Like hell.

And in the perpetual land of manana what ever stuff the previous visitors brought and left is still there. It is called trash. Since man has been everywhere on the globe now the easy to get to places like beaches have had a good number of prior visitors and so there is plenty of trash that never seems to be in the photos. Also there is no sewage treatment anywhere in the world, practically, except the US, and the high density urban area just around the point from the swimsuit beaches in the photo shoots is not in the picture nor the smell of the sewage.

So looking at the photos there are smells and things that you don’t see that prevent the place from being the utopia of your dreams. I remember spending an Easter weekend with my wife and kids on a beach adjacent to a stretch of beach that had just perfect conditions for a level stretch a mile or better long where the surf just was a constant boil of white foam with 5 foot waves crashing in every second. The roar was constant and after several hours just annoying. In three days ONE person walked by. The smell of dead and decaying shellfish was persistent. The gnats left us covered in itching sores.

We learned. Beaches are best appreciated from the air conditioned bar...

I’m missing something here. What’s the connection with Reddit?

Reddit went down overnight and there are a lot of weird theories as to why. I can’t imagine this nightmare of a mismanaged scam festival had anything to do with it myself, but there are those who do.

It’s a pretty significant event in these young people’s lives. This festival was poorly planned and food is not of the best quality. They used to sell those orange crackers with peanut butter, six cracker sandwiches to a package but the package was about 33 cents so you got three for a dollar. Calling that peanut butter however was quite a stretch and those orange crackers were a dental hygienist’s nightmare. It’s a shame that Blink 182 cancelled out but I can’t blame them as they are accustomed to better accommodations. Those battered high school lockers on the beach sans locks were a riot. Overpriced Ray Bans and designer shorts not safe in those for sure! Reddit is back up again, the pedes are back on the march so all is good on this fine late April Friday morning.

Been volunteering there since 2112. Leesburg is about 45 minutes north-northwest of Orlando on US 27 (and not far from the Florida Turnpike).

Had no idea what FyreFest was but thanks to FreeRepublic I now have free entertainment...too much Twitter fun...

The revisionist historians will tell you how peaceful Woodstock was.

The Yippies and Black Panthers extorted tens of thousands of dollars from the show producers to keep them from talking down the event and causing chaos at it. They were also provided booth space and an onsite printing press. The fences were torn down and Abbie Hoffman invaded the stage to take the mic during the Who’s set anyway.

At the event the Communists burned down the “capitalist’s” hamburger stand (you can hear it referenced in the announcements in the film).

Behind the scenes one of the radical groups (I don’t recall which one) tried to forcibly steal (by armed threat) the rented camera equipment used by the filmmakers.

And that’s just for starters.

Maybe they had to limit flights to the island to keep it from tipping over. < /s >
