Guadagno tries to get GOP rival in N.J. governor's race tossed off the ballot

TRENTON -- Republican gubernatorial candidate Jack Ciattarelli on Monday survived an attempt by rival Kim Guadagno to knock him off the GOP primary ballot.

Supporters of Guadagno, New Jersey's lieutenant governor, filed a complaint that questioned the validity of more than 700 petition signatures Ciattarelli had handed in to qualify for the June 6 primary for the GOP nod to succeed Gov. Chris Christie, who is in his final year in office.

But an administrative law judge on Monday threw out only about 180 of those signatures, which wasn't enough to boot Ciattarelli, a member of the state Assembly from Somerset County.

The complaint against Ciatarelli's campaign was then withdrawn, and the Ciatarelli campaign withdrew a counter-complaint asking the state to take a look at Guadagno's signatures.

Dem Kim read Chapter 1 of the Obama Political Success Story.

Why risk an election if you can win beforehand?

Isn’t it fun to watch the GOPe Italian Mafia fight amongst themselves. I doubt in all of New Jersey you could find someone who could successfully run as a Republican anywhere else. Even FAT BOY wasn’t a real Republican. He was way out in left field on the Second Amendment.

I’ve seen her speak 3 times ... each time was the same speech about how she ran for sheriff because someone told her she couldn’t be sheriff and she won (nothing about what she did as sheriff). And then THEY told her she couldn’t be lieutenant governor, and then she ran and she won (nothing about what she accomplished as lieutenant governor, other than perhaps being a counterbalance for Christie during helicopter rides).

Knowing she was going to run for governor, I told her she should run for governor, hoping she’ll lose.

She worthy of capitalizing the ‘I’ in Idiot.

Sounds like “I’m woman, hear me roar” kind of rhetoric. Hope she bangs her head on the glass ceiling this time.

Guadagno will run again in 2021 if she loses to Phil Murphy. The NJ GOP will be the future of the GOP in general. NJ could be competitive one day again.

Chris Christie was the best you're ever going to get in New Jersey. It's not outlandish to get an occasional GOP governor in this state even though it's very "blue" in most respects. We have off-year governor's elections here (2009, 2013, 2017, etc.), so turnout is lighter than usual and it's not hard for a political upstart to hit the scene quickly and mount a successful run for governor.

Having said that ... this state also has an annoying habit of electing Democrats and Republicans to alternate eight-year stretches. It's been that way for years -- dating back to the last one-term governor (Jim Florio) in 1989-93. There's no way in hell a Republican wins this November.

Guadagno is from Iowa and is not Italian.

Btw if not for the Italian Americans you like to disparage, Hilary Clinton would be president.

P.S. — New Jersey is so fouled up and dysfunctional that any candidate who wins the governor’s election in November would probably be sorely tempted to demand a recount.

True. I live in New Jersey as well. The best GOP candidate would have been Assemblyman Jay Webber or Jon Bramnick. But they did not want to run.

The next NJ GOP governor will be president one day, mark my words.

This is what she said to a bankers' conference in Trenton: "No matter how hard the Republicans try this year we will not be taking back the Legislature," Guadagno said. "We will take some seats, I hope, and save some seats, I hope, but not enough to stop legislation being passed that will ruin this state and turn the clock back eight years."

This is what columnist Paul Mulshine wrote about what she said to the bankers. "Or in other words: "The Titanic is about to sail. Elect me captain and I'll make sure and hit that iceberg nice and hard.""

I have been telling my wife that Pennsylvania is on the other side of the Delaware River, and they don't tax pensions there. At all.

I love Italians! My niece is married to one. He’s the past CFO at Ferrari in Modena, Italy! Not disparaging anyone, just making a joke! We have a huge extended family in Verona.

“Chris Christie was the best you’re ever going to get in New Jersey.”

Agreed, Christy Todd Whitman was not nearly as good a governor as the Doughboy, but he’s not very Conservative nonetheless.

Tom Kean Jr. and Jay Webber will be the future of the NJ GOP..and the GOP in general. Chris Christie’s political career looks to be over. I don’t think Christie will run for office for a long time. I don’t see him running for president in 2024.

Didn’t Christie pardon the woman from PA who was arrested for carrying her handgun in NJ?

Chris Christie is anti-tax, pro-life, and a straight white guy; I doubt we’ll get someone like him in NJ ever again. This state is rapidly devolving into a Third World toilet.
