Students at the University of California Berkeley may not be able to hear conservative commentator Ann Coulter speak on campus however, they can take a school-sanctioned course on a made-up language used in a popular HBO fantasy show. The university, already embroiled in a free speech controversy, reportedly plans to offer a six-week course inspired by the fictional Dothraki and High Valyrian languages used by characters on the HBO series Game of Thrones.

Unreal. I just did a (very long) little test to “guess your education level” Now mind you, I graduated high school in the late seventies and took a few college courses—no degree.
I scored at PHD/Grad school level. Today’s youth are being ROBBED by “higher education.”
Some colleges play up this nonsense as a rudimentary way of learning linguistics. But learning a made up language in no way teaches you about the complex subtleties and long, rich history of the evolution of a real language.
No, what this really teaches you is that college is a very expensive marketing racket. 18 to 22 year old kids like Game of Thrones and will sign up for a class that lets them relive Game of Thrones. Young kids like sex too. Hence, all the college courses of sex and bondage, etc. Colleges aren't teaching kids what they need to know. Colleges are catering to kids' whims and desires and dressing it up as education to be able to charge a fortune for it.
Non issue for me. Definitely enraged about the organized anti-free speech protesters. Think Trump should shut the college down as a safety hazard,.
But teaching a fantasy language is okay with me. Mark it under ‘the arts’.,
Pretty sure that Dothraki consists entirely of hate speech.
thrakatulûk, agh burzum-ishi krimpatul.
Wait, wrong series.
Only if she's teaching it.
As Mike Rowe stated during his speech to the House Committee on Education and The Workforce back in February,
“...the outstanding student-loan debt is 1.3 trillion dollars. Yet even now, we continue to lend money we dont have to kids who cant pay it back, educating them for jobs that no longer exist while ignoring careers that do.”
Ding, ding, ding - we have a thread winnah!
“Ph’nglui mglw’nafh Cthulhu R’lyeh wgah’nagl fhtagn”
Wait, wrong universe...
Can the class credits be applied toward a bachelor’s degree in Game of Thrones?
There were in the past.
I thought the ones offering sign language were actually smart and inclusive.
Programming languages in place of a foreign language are probably of more use than someone learning French or German these days.

Colleges have been teaching Tolkien’s Elvish language for years. Of course, Tolkien was a linguist whose fake language was logically structured. Martin is just a leftist crank.
ROTFLMAO
LOL!
This should be extremely useful on the job market. These kids are racking up thousands of dollars in loans...or their parents are...for interesting, but pointless classes.
I am sure they can learn this stuff for for free on the Internet. But college credit for this?...
If they are not teaching Klingon and Romulan, may I suggest a good old-fashioned riot, complete with masks and broken windows! after all, how racist, speciest (sp?) can they be?
Not to mention ageist, since Star Trek was made a long time ago!
Language fascists! LOL!,,
(j/k, not at all advocating violence. It has just become so absurd.).
