If you follow the news with any diligence beyond reading the loudest early headlines and social-media clickbait, you are wearyingly familiar with the pattern of heavily-hyped hate crimes (ranging from violent crimes to nasty notes on restaurant receipts) that turn out to be false flag hoaxes, frequently perpetrated by the very sorts of left-leaning folks who make the stories go viral in the first place.

Suprisingly hard hitting overview of the recent hoax campaign from NR. Some important background about this phenomenon of hate hoaxes is included. The author is brave to point out that this was not an innocent mistake, but a political power play designed to hurt and humilate Trump supporters.

How could they try to blame this on Trump? The left has always housed the anti-semites.

Did anybody apologize to Trump when a Jewish kid in Israel was found to be the source of all the trauma? And the kid’s father, I might add.

There’s already a more recent case than this one about the Israeli/American kid with the JCC bomb threats.

Considering how much publicity the "Trump-inspired" wave of anti-Semitic hate-crimes attracted, it is interesting how little press the arrest of the Israeli guy received. Between him and the black guy arrested a couple of weeks ago, they account for most of the threats against the Jewish centers, yet - if you blinked - you might have missed the story of the arrest. It passed through the news cycle almost phantom-like.
I guess we know the answer: since it couldn't be pinned on Trump supporters, it was kind of an embarrassment/disappointment to the media, so they quickly moved on.

Sad to say, at least one Israeli newspaper announced that an apology to Trump was completely unnecessary. I thought that was mean.

"How could they try to blame this on Trump? The left has always housed the anti-Semites."
Back in the day, there was a lot of anti-Semitism on the right, but that was decades ago. More recently, the most ardent pro-Zionists - apart from conservative Jews - are evangelical Christians, and the left has become firmly anti-Zionist.
As for Trump, the charges of anti-Semitism against him were not attributable to anything he personally said or did, but were based on a flimsy guilt-by-association trick, in which anti-Semitic views on the alt-right were attributed to Trump.

Yet it was demanded that Trump "disassociate" himself from something that he was never associated with in the first place.
