Poll: Americans want Democrats to work with Trump (73%}
The Hill ^ | February 18, 2017 | By Jonathan Easley

A strong majority of Americans say Democrats should look to cooperate with President Trump to strike deals, according to the inaugural Harvard-Harris poll provided exclusively by The Hill.

The survey found that 73 percent of voters want to see Democrats work with the president, against only 27 percent who said Democrats should resist Trump’s every move.

The findings are significant as Democratic leaders in Congress are under growing pressure by their liberal base to obstruct the president's agenda. The poll shows the party is divided on how to deal with Trump: 52 percent of Democrats polled say they should cooperate with him on areas of agreement and 48 percent saying they shouldn't.

Those figures are nearly identical when the question is flipped – 68 percent of those polled say that Trump should be willing to compromise and find ways to work with Democrats in Congress. Thirty-two percent said Trump shouldn’t bend at all, even if it means finding ways to achieve his agenda without congressional approval. . .

They are obstructing ever move the Trump administration makes and then they turn around and accuse him of not getting anything done. Makes me sick.

Heck, I must be in the 27% that just want Democrats in prison.

But their base, who pays the bills and can primary them, don’t want anything but impeachment.

It seems like the dems have been whittled back pretty close to their base and the base isn’t going to be interested in working with DJT. I don’t see Nanci and Chuck suddenly becoming cooperative even if the remaining moderates are more willing.

That is something Trump needs to do, ask people to call write and email their senators and representatives and give them a link to those numbers. Honestly, there are a lot of people who don’t even know who they are.

What we’re going to hear about is how the paid protesters showed up at town halls and agitated and they will make it sound like they represent all Dims.

Other than Joe Manchin I am very hard pressed to think of a moderate D in congress.

I mean he seems to be the last what would have been old school type New Deal type D’s even though he is obviously not from that generation.

“But their base, who pays the bills and can primary them, don’t want anything but impeachment.”

Hence the HUGE PROBLEM they have. If they’re perceived as nothing but obstructionist, then they are FINISHED as an opposition party.

...of course the media is too busy attacking Trump with fake news to make that point, but this poll proves that to be the case.

No, the media says that Trump’s approval numbers are 51%.

This can’t be right... /s

The Dems overplayed their hand. Thankfully...

“Other than Joe Manchin I am very hard pressed to think of a moderate D in congress.”

Manchin voted for Obamacare and was a leading supporter of more gun control after Sandy Hook - after campaigning against just that.

...and, of course, Trump won his state by 40 POINTS, his best showing in the country. If Manchin doesn’t kiss up to Trump for the next 2 years, on just about everything, all Trump needs to do is make one trip to Charleston, and Manchin will be out of DC in 2019.

I know this, which is why it’s been widely debated that he may jump parties.

I have no idea if he would become a reliable ally or would just be the Appalachian version of the Senators from Maine.

There are still a few and they’ll be up for reelection in 2018.

I would be part of the 37%. I want NOTHING to do with the democrats. If I had the ultimate power, I would cut off their food, water and even the air they breathe.

I want Democrats to leave my country by whatever means necessary.

I don’t care how they go, just get out.

Except Democrat voters who voted for Trump. They’re okay.

Yea, you can’t be sure...but generally Dems do pretty good when they flip to our side. This case reminds me a lot of Richard Shelby, who, after voting with the Republicans and criticizing Clinton at one point, was ‘punished’ by Clinton...and responded by becoming a Republican, and a damn good one (at least until near the end of his time in the Senate).

Manchin will be playing with fire if he flips to our side and then acts as a RINO, since we’ll already be suspicious...and I’m sure he knows that.

Since those 27% who want total obstruction include the DBM, their influence is greatly exaggerated.
