In an unprecedented move, President-elect Donald Trump has fired traditional inauguration announcer Charlie Brotman, replacing him with Steve Ray.
Ray is a Washington, DC.-based freelance announcer, and formerly volunteered with Trump's campaign.
Brotman, 88, has announced every inauguration parade since former President Dwight D. Eisenhower was sworn into office in 1957.
In an interview with CTV News Channel on Thursday, Brotman said, "Devastated is a word that covers it all. Yes, I was really disappointed, to say the least... Im asking, Did I do something? Am I too old? Whats going on?"
Brotman told CNN he "thought he was going to commit suicide."
Though he still doesn't know why he was fired, Brotman has received an outpouring of support. In addition, a Washington-based TV station asked him to share on inauguration day anecdotes, thoughts, and experiences from previous inauguration day parades.
"Ive never received so many emails, so many voicemails," Brotman said, emphasizing the response was "overwhelming."
Brotman is the son of Russian-Jewish immigrants to the US, and was working as an announcer as the Washington Senators baseball team when Eisenhower offered heard him and offered him a job.
A Trump transition team spokesman said Brotman would be honored as announcer chairman emeritus.

“What’s going on? Where am I? What day is this?”
He wasn’t “fired” as much as he wasn’t “hired.”
Seems rather selfish to expect to announce every inaugeration. Seems crazy to consider suicide if you can’t.
Since it appears that he has severe mental issues maybe it’s for the best that he passes the torch to someone less emotionally invested.

They found someone older.
Johnny Cash, and The Beatles were Legendary.
For the life of me I couldn’t pull this AARP Snowflakes name outta my *ss to win a game of Trivial Pursuit.
He didn’t get the call to repeat.
He wasn’t fired.
At 88, I wish the guy could look back on his many years of doing a good job and getting kudos happily.
I don’t mean to put the guy down based on age, but it does seem to me out of 325 million people, it’s just possible there’s someone out there that could do a better job now.
Time for that person to start his run at the job.
It’s a good move by Trump.
It shows the country that it is a new day in Washington and even 60 year old institutions and traditions are being refined.
The guy feels entitled.
It must pay fantastically well, if he only has to work one day every four years and earns enough on that single day to not work the four years in between!
(yes I’m probably being sarcastic, but one never knows with the machinations of payola in DC.)
You complain if your one day of work every four years goes away?
Maybe he was expecting overtime because it was a Saturday.
Wrong calendar. Friday

LEISURE WORLD, Md. -- Long-time emcee Charlie Brotman says he's already looking forward to working the inauguration of the 45th president. And he's got his candidate picked out: Hillary Clinton. I gotta stay alive(Clinton). I cant die. Itll screw up everything! Brotman, 87, said at a Hillary for America event here featuring former President Bill Clinton. "Yeah. I'm looking forward to it," said Brotman, who is a retired Washington Senators announcer who hasnt missed presenting the inaugural parade since Dwight D. Eisenhowers second one in 1957.
Hes still got it, Brotman said, adding, And if he were to run, hed win. So, Hillary may be the second-best thing.
Drain the Clinton lover.
If the Caliph or the Hildabeast did this it would be ‘celebrated’.
Yes.
Trump should not feel at all beholden to the 60 years of deceit and destruction that the “progressives” have implemented in this country.
good research. I wonder if he would have “turned it down” if Trump had asked him...or “backed out” after accepting. This might have been another chance for the media to spin like they did about the retirement of the General in charge of the DC National Guard.
Those 60 years included 8 of Reagan.
The D.C. LEO that is going around saying that the Trump team is firing him at 12:01 is lying. Turns out that all positions placed by the president terminate at 12:01, the Trump team asked him to stay until the inauguration was over, but he refused.
