ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) - A former Maryland lawmaker who lost her seat after being found guilty of theft and misconduct in office in 2012 could soon be reinstated to the bar.
The Daily Record (https://bit.ly/2p7vLeg ) reports that the Office of Bar Counsel has filed papers saying it consents to reinstating former Del. Tiffany Alston.
Acting Bar Counsel Raymond Hein wrote that the Prince George’s County Democrat “has demonstrated remorse for the professional misconduct for which she was sanctioned.” He wrote she has shown “past and continuing dedication to community service.”
The Court of Appeals has scheduled a May 8 hearing on Alston’s reinstatement.
Alston was found guilty in June 2012 of having used state money to pay an employee in her law firm by misrepresenting the worker as a member of her legislative staff.
