Happenings Christie's John Reardon To Deliver Keynote At The American Watchmakers-Clockmakers Institute's 2017 National Convention

If you work in the watchmaking industry, you don't want to miss this convention.

The American Watchmakers-Clockmakers Institute (AWCI) is the USA's national organization for watch and clock making professionals. Founded in 1960, the AWCI is the nation's first unified horological organization. Every year since 1960, the AWCI has held a national convention, bringing the nation's watch and clock making industry together for one week. This year the convention will be held in Tampa, Florida, October 4-7, and John Reardon, the head of the Christie's watch department, will deliver the keynote address.

Reardon joins an illustrious group of past AWCI speakers that includes George Daniels, Stephen Forsey, the Smithsonian's Carlene Stephens, and astronaut Scott Carpenter. The keynote kicks-off a full convention schedule of classes, networking opportunities, and a vendor fair. Classes include a comprehensive look at Accutron servicing, an overview of the American style of striking clock movements, and a look at selecting and maintaining a watchmaking lathe. The classes are taught by industry experts, such as Larry Blanchard, Ken De Lucca, Andrew Dekeyser and Keaton Myrick. You might not have heard of some of these people, but they're the folks that keep the watchmaking industry moving forward.

John Reardon

John Reardon first became interested in clocks and watches while interning at the American Watch and Clock Museum in his hometown of Bristol, Connecticut, where he learned clock repair and restoration. While completing a degree in history and languages, he worked as a curatorial assistant at the Willard House and Clock Museum in Grafton, Massachusetts. His passion for all things horological brought him to the auction world in New York in the 1990s where his academic and commercial focus turned to watches. In 2001, he joined Patek Philippe USA and become a noted author, writer, and researcher in all things related to the famous Swiss manufacture. After a decade with Patek Philippe, he rejoined the auction world and is presently the International Head of Watches at Christie’s. He is a contributing writer for the "Life And Times" feature in the Patek Philippe Magazine and has written three books on the history of watches, most notably Patek Philippe in America: Marketing the World’s Foremost Watch.
