Nico Tortorella Wore a Suit and Went Shirtless at the Same Time

It would almost be impressive if the Younger star didn't also break the cardinal rule of wearing summer-ready tailoring.

Staying cool in the summer isn't easy if you have to wear a suit, an outfit which requires multiple layers and (sometimes!) stuffier textiles. Still, designers have found solutions by using lightweight, breathable fabrics and then there are the plenty of ways to get the polish of a tailored look but approach it from a more summer-friendly angle. It's not easy, but with a little effort you can make it work.

Part of that effort includes wearing the appropriate thing under your suit, which is to say an actual garment. Nico Tortorella, star of the TV show Younger, doesn't appear to agree with this menswear philosophy. The actor turned up at the show's season four premiere wearing a slick white double-breasted suit and, well, that's it. The sartorial real estate where you'd usually expect to find a collared shirt or a tee was instead filled with flesh and swath of chest hair. And it's not the first time the actor's pulled this move (he's tried it before with less-than-satisfactory results).

While there are very few hard-and-fast rules in the ever-changing world of menswear—where track pants are now dressy and dresses are, well, the new pants—wearing a shirt with a suit is one of them. And the sad part is, he's hitting so many other trends—double-breasted jacket, the looser fit, the all-white—that it's a shame to see him drop the ball on what should be the easiest part of the equation.

The 28-year-old actor recently said that he likes to be objectified, and it shows. After all, what's the point of working on your fitness if you don't show it off somehow. But later in the evening, Nico Tortorella switched things, wearing what appears to be the exact same suit, but in black, and with a shirt. He went with white, for a nice classic contrast, buttoned-up to the top with no tie. Needless to say, it looked awesome. Turns out some rules weren't meant to be broken.
