We Have a Winner

Yes it was New York Fashion Week and there were plenty of dudes getting after it on the street, but the only fit that mattered was on the legend Dwight Yoakam at the Grammy’s on Sunday night. Coat over denim jacket over oversized shirt? Dwight’s found his own look and stuck to it, and for that we salute him.

Notorious Instagram flexers Drake and John Mayer achieved fit pic synchronicity this week by coming out strong for techy sportswear brand Stone Island. Drake, who’s been kitted out exclusively in Stone Island on his recent string of tour dates, struck first, showing he’s a real fan by rocking a custom $100,000 Stone Island logo chain. Not to be outdone, John Mayer followed up on Valentine’s Day with an all-pink Stone Island sweatsuit that demonstrates that the best fit pics are the ones where you own the ridiculousness.

A revealing StyleForum conversation.

Yesterday, The Intercept published a report revealing that a senior member of Trump’s National Security Council, Michael Anton, spends his free time posting on Style Forum, the sprawling menswear message board. In fact, he was one of the real StyFo OGs, whose 41,000+ posts seemed to fall in one of two categories: custom suiting advice (the dude wrote a Machiavellian history of the traditional men’s clothing), and dark apocalyptic predictions. Anton hasn’t posted on StyleForum since getting the gig, which is really the only heartening thing about this. (Trump’s ties sure haven’t been looking any better.)

Yes, New York Fashion Week: Men’s just ended, which means it’s New York Fashion Week. (But for womenswear.) There were still a handful of men’s looks trotted out over the course of the week—here are three favorites.

Guess Who’s Back?

The fashion world waited with baited breath for Kanye West’s follow up to his widely-panned Yeezy Season 4 show—and it went off. The show was more modest than previous efforts, sure, but it featured a well-styled mix of Adidas x Yeezy and his own label, and was even on-time for a fashion show (i.e. only 20 minutes late). These are the five men’s looks above, including a new shoe design, dubbed the Yeezy Runner, that joins an interesting trend noted by GQ sneaker guru Jake Woolf.

Jacket, $2,400, by Neil Barrett / T-shirt, $235, belt, $575 by Dolce & Gabbana / Jeans, $70, by Levi’s / Watch by Breguet

Consider this your friendly reminder that we dropped the GQ Style Spring cover story this week, featuring the ever-controversial Conor McGregor wearing our favorite clothes of the season. It’s not to be missed—and there’s plenty more fire from the issue to come. Get it here.

Lookbooks Worth Looking At

Supreme Spring-Summer 2017.

Supreme, Noah, and Palace all dropped their Spring-Summer 2017 lookbooks this week, and cool kids the world over started planning their budgets accordingly. Like past seasons, the Supreme preview showcased plenty of slightly-twisted basics (a Fuck The President graphic tee, color-blocked pants, a cowboy-print denim jacket, etc.) and bonkers accessories (a two-ride MTA card, a Coleman mini bike), all of which will sell out almost immediately over the next few months—except for maybe the bike.

An image from the new Noah lookbook.

Like Supreme, Noah releases new product every Thursday, and the brand’s nautical lookbook not only previews tons of tasty product (including some effortless tailoring), but also delivers a poignant, timely message: choices matter. It’s exactly why they’re one of the most exciting new brands out there right now.

Finally, London skate outfit Palace released a Spring 2017 lookbook influenced by athletics and the outdoors. While chelsea boots paired with nylon pants and sweats might not be the most obvious style move, it sure as hell looks convincing here.

Spring Stripes

Acne Studios.

Our Legacy.

For brands that show a season ahead, Spring product is starting to trickle into stores, and we’ve got an early leader for trend of the season: Scandinavian shirt coats. Yep, it’s exactly what it sounds like. That’s because Acne Studios and Our Legacy both just dropped these coats made out of striped shirting fabrics, and you might want both, since the former is rubberized against the elements, the latter purely casual. We’re certainly on board.

The Diversity Issue

Over the course of NYFW W Magazine filmed 81 of fashion’s biggest names who have one thing in common: they’re all from someplace else. It’s easy to forget how central immigration is to sustaining America’s vibrant, brilliant fashion industry, and the video is an inspiring reminder that fashion’s diversity should be celebrated always, and now more than ever.

This Week’s Only Good Press Conference

Today in a pre-NBA All Star Game Q+A with reporters, here’s how Russell Westbrook answered questions about playing with traitorous former teammate Kevin Durant:

Reporter: Hey Russ, what’s it gonna be like to be in that locker room with Kevin Durant?
Westbrook: Man, you know what, fashion week has been great. You seen fashion week? You been paying attention to fashion week? Man, a lot of great looking things at fashion week I’m looking forward to — new collections, it’s been good.
Reporter: Hey Russ, any discussion of you and KD playing together?
Westbrook: Man, you seen the new Public School clothing? Crazy. They got the new Jordan hoodie with MJ. It’s crazy, man. A lot of new great things with Fashion Week I’ve seen, man. What else is out? Gucci. The new Gucci stuff is dope. It’s good stuff, man.

(The Gucci show is next week in Milan, but whatever.)
