Supreme Court to decide whether mandatory union dues violate First Amendment rights
The Washington Times ^ | February 19, 2018 | Alex Swoyer

When Mark Janus got his first paycheck working as a child support specialist for the state of Illinois in 2007, he was stunned to see a nearly $50 deduction for union dues.

He had worked for the state in the 1980s and didn’t remember anything like it.

“I’m going like, ‘I’m not a member of the union. What’s going on here?’” he said.

Worse yet was where he saw the union dues going, such as to efforts demanding wage increases at a time when Illinois was struggling with a crippling pension debt.

Now Mr. Janus is taking his case to the Supreme Court. Justices this month will hear his attorneys argue that he is being forced to subsidize views he doesn’t support, violating his core First Amendment rights.

The case is one of the most-watched this term, two years after a union dues case ended in a 4-4 deadlock. Conservative activists are hoping that with Justice Neil M. Gorsuch bringing the court to nine members, they will be able to reach a decision and rein in the powerful unions.

Who else recalls the Card Check ‘movement’ that accompanied Obama’s first election? It was a leftist’s dream.

Should be a slam-dunk case but it won’t be.

Why bother? $50 a month is just crumbs.

It’ll probably be a 5/4 case, hopefully Kennedy goes with the conservatives.

Damned unions did this stunt in Michigan stealing, yes, stealing money from home caregivers under the protective auspices of that Canadian whore, Jennifer F’n Grandmole.

Took years of Michigan Supreme Court rulings to roll this criminal sh!t back, but the victims lost their money.

God Damn a Public Unions.

Think the states attorney generals will sue the supreme court when they lose ?

They seem to think they can sue their way to everything else.

I have always really liked the Washington Times. Their articles, including this one, are almost always well written, factual and balanced in their presentation of controversial topics unlike the WaPo.

Kennedy is good when it comes to free speech cases. If Mark Janus is gay and favors abortion rights, Kennedy is a lock.

The cycle pf bribery in public employee unions.

Union collects dues to bribe elected officials who vote o n the union benefits and salaries. Legislature votes to raise salaries and benefits and governor signs bill. Union raises dues and increases bribes to people who vote for their contracts.

What about the un-Constitutionality of mandatory fines for not paying for the market service called Health Insurance?

"Now Mr. Janus is taking his case to the Supreme Court. Justices this month will hear his attorneys argue that he is being forced to subsidize views he doesn’t support, violating his core First Amendment rights."

As a consequence of state officials allowing themselves to be put under the thumb of the union regarding taking union dues out of state pay checks, please consider the following.

Since state power is involved in abridging constitutionally enumerated rights, 1st Amendment-protected free speech in this case, evidently low-information state officials unthinkingly violated Section 1 of the 14th Amendment with respect to this paycheck issue imo.

Insights welcome.

If Roberts votes against the 1st Amendment, I will know he is hopelessly dirty. He is, I guess I just need to see it to be sure.

The Unions own large portions of our government.

Any sane reading of the constutution says a Union cannot extort money from members and FORCE THEM to contribute that money to the political party they despise.

But these are not sane times. These are corrupt times and the Unions own our government lock, stock, and barrel. I’m stunned SCOTUS is even taking the case.

Praying for a miracle, but I know the fix is in.

Puke.

My union forced me to contribute to Democrats only for my entire 34 year career. I am winding up my career, but I PRAY for those following me, SCOTUS does the right thing here, the Constituional thing.

I am not holding my breath.

We need Ginsberg and another commie lib justice to die. Trump needs 8 years in office and needs to install 2 more conservative justices on the Supreme Court. I pray to God.
