This is the the US Army’s newest pistol
NY Post ^ | Dec 14, 2017 | Allison Barrie

In future battles, U.S. soldiers will have a new sidearm for personal protection. The Army’s new pistol may see more action than the last thanks to a design that has great potential for offensive purposes like close quarter combat.

The Army has begun fielding the first Sig Sauer XM17 Modular Handgun System (MHS) sidearms.

The Sig Sauer 9mm XM17, and the more compact version XM18, are replacing the M9 as the Army’s service pistol.

This is the first change in about three decades since Beretta’s M9 was first introduced as the Army’s sidearm in the Cold War era back in 1986.

Over the next 10 years, the Army will distribute the new handguns to all Army units.

Cutting to the chase…what is better about this new weapon? Fans of the new weapon are citing factors like better accuracy and tighter dispersion that will enhance soldiers’ lethality. It is also hailed for being easy to use, as well as more comfortable and efficient. Read on for more details …

That doesn’t look a thing like my Sig Saucer P229.
(Man, I miss my guns since I moved to Japan.)

How many decades will we have to wait for M9s to be made available for those who want them?

Honestly, almost anything is better than the god-awful M9.
The grips on it sucked and didn’t inspire confidence in solidly gripping the weapon.
I immediately hated it upon being handed one, it felt like a vcr tape in my hands.
“Oddly” a Colt 1911 felt more natural in my hands.
Weird.

The 1911 is still the best.

Handled two, never got to fire them though.
One had slightly thicker grip panels but didn’t feel awful like the M9 did.
Wish I got to fire them in hindsight.

Buy one. Once you get used to firing .45 there’s no going back to girlie ammo..

I have a full sized Glock in .45, extended stainless barrel and mag extensions on the hi cap mags, gives me 15+1

Then i have a Sig P220, scary accurate but its only single stack.

What i see here is a striker fired Sig, you can change calibers easy, you can go Romeo sight, you can go 21 rounds in 9mm. I might just buy one. If i can find the hi cap mags.

If you haven’t seen this, it’s Keanu Reeves training for John Wick. Awesome.

Owned two (92f and 96 centurion). Decent guns, functioned well. As concealed carry, however they are bulky and heavy. There are smaller, lighter 9MM guns out there that function just as well. As a police or military sidearm they fit in well.

Do you remember??

Time Magazine, in 1986 or 87, in a TRULY STUNNING display of firearm IGNORANCE, informed the public that the US military’s then-new M-9 9mm pistol “would penetrate a TANK’S armor!”

“The 1911 is still the best.”

I’ll always have a soft spot for the 1911. But if I were going into combat tomorrow morning and had to choose a pistol from what is available today...

It’d be a 1911. When you run it dry you can still beat your enemy to death with it.
