Illinois isn't the only state dealing with financial headaches these days. Connecticut, too, is facing big budget problems as major corporations flee the state's high taxes and its fiscal future gets murkier by the day. While Illinois is facing the possibility its credit rating hitting "junk" status, Connecticut has the distinction of the third-worst ratings in the country -- behind Illinois and New Jersey. S&P Global Ratings, Moody's and Fitch all downgraded the state last month -- which threatens to increase the cost of borrowing -- in what officials described as a "call to action" for state leaders. “We’ve been downgraded by everybody in the last six months, and in the last year two or three times,” Senate Republican President Len Fasano said. “If we don’t pass a budget, I think we will see a further downward spiral.”

It’s going to take more government and more taxes to solve this problem.

No bail-outs.

States that have controlled their budgets should not be penalized for their responsibility.

I’ve read that illegal aliens are the key to prosperity along with higher taxes.

Those corporations fleeing those states are bringing their salaried staff with them and therein lies the seed of another economic failure in the states to which they flee.

I could see voting rights being strictly a state citizenship sort of thing with new residents having to wait at ̀ years before they can vote in in any elections below that or President. Give them time to become acclimated to th relative freedom that they think they love so much so that they may be less inclined to vote in the Services that bankrupted the states they fled.

Or, make voting eligibility based off of you having paid taxes the previous year. That would eliminate people from voting rolls when they move out of the state, when they die (at most one year of Dem voting), and, it would remove people who have no skin in the game from voting themselves freebies. There's a reason the Founders originally only gave voting rights to landowners.
