On this day in 1942, President Franklin D. Roosevelt signs Executive Order 9066, initiating a controversial World War II policy with lasting consequences for Japanese Americans. The document ordered the removal of resident enemy aliens from parts of the West vaguely identified as military areas.

After the bombing of Pearl Harbor by the Japanese in 1941, Roosevelt came under increasing pressure by military and political advisors to address the nation’s fears of further Japanese attack or sabotage, particularly on the West Coast, where naval ports, commercial shipping and agriculture were most vulnerable. Included in the off-limits military areas referred to in the order were ill-defined areas around West Coast cities, ports and industrial and agricultural regions. While 9066 also affected Italian and German Americans, the largest numbers of detainees were by far Japanese.

There is a great movie called Go for Broke about the 442nd regiment of Japanese-American volunteers who fought in WWII.

there was tremendous fear at the time but Japanese Americans proved to be loyal in WW2

today we can see in every day’s news how Islamic “immigrants” are here to attack, terrorize, and ultimately conquer and destroy us. Same method they’ve used to conquer 57 other countries already. There is an entire history about this that anybody can read....it is specific to the Moslem expansion and their socalled “religion” (of submission, meaning you and me and all other “infidel” Christians, Jews, Hindus, and everyone else). Read the life of (the mercenary warrior, invader, conquerer) Mohammed, that’s who they’re following!

Pray that America wakes up and that DJT can and will “humanely” repatriate (deport, return home) the Islamics, ASAP while we have this one (probably last) chance to protect ourselves and our children. Pray for President Trump that he is successful. Pray please pray for America. Thank you.

Reports from the Philippines would have supported this conclusion. Pre-war there were tens of thousands of Japanese residents in the country.

There were thousands of cases of local Japanese civilians, merchants, tradesmen, household servants (Japanese servants were prized by the Philippine upper class), and even the entire town of Davao, at the time effectively a Japanese enclave, turning out to be Japanese agents, military reservists, or enthusiastically supporting their countrymen.

These reports are ubiquitous in every personal memoir or story I have heard in the half-century Ive been interested in the subject.

This would all have been reported to US intelligence services in Corregidor at the time, as until the surrender of “the Rock” in May 1942 they were receiving reports from around the country.

Idiot George Takei is saying today that the “America First” attitude put his family into a camp. NONSENSE. FDR was a globalist, unlike many isolationist Republicans. Yet he still interned Japanese, Italian and German CITIZENS. All Trump is trying to do is keep NON-citizens from coming here, yet he is treated like Hitler.

Iwo Jima was a particularly vicious battle. We actually suffered more casualties than the Japanese. The big difference was the Japanese casualties were nearly 100% KIA or suicides.

The Japanese commander ordered them not to commit suicide bu to die fighting. Many disobeyed his order.

I hate being a hindsight historian, but man that EO was so bogus and disgraceful.

Maybe in Hawaii it could have made sense, but even then it never was implemented there because their were so many ethnic Japanese that there was no way to enforce it.

They proved to be some of the most American-Americans, at least far more than many people of German lineage.

The legacy of the exec order to put Japanese-Americans in internment camps has been condemned. And indeed, our government officially apologized and paid a token reparations fee to the internees.

As I recall, the Supreme Court upheld the internment as constitutional; not a violation of constitutional rights. As a wartime measure, it was considered legal at that time.

Could it happen again? Could Muslims be targeted and interred, as our war against radical Islam continues???

We did arrest and hang Nazi spies and saboteurs in WWII.

And we did summarily execute partisans caught without being in a uniform.

He thinks he’s talking about Star Trek, and he’ll talk to anyone about it, anytime.

Takei is actually a very nice guy. But in this sense, you’re right: he is an idiot.

Maybe. But FDR gave them no other choice. I'm hardly a fan of FDR but I've looked at the West Coast newspapers from before he issued the interment order and I believe he was justified in doing so. (Maybe we could have treated those Japs better financially?) But we did win the war, and FDR has to get some credit in this regard.

Takei is a sexual degenerate homosexual, so don’t expect his mind to function in a healthy fashion. His soul is too twisted for normal reasoning.

The MAGIC intercepts confirmed there were quite a few West Coast agents, and rounding just them up would have revealed that we had broken the Japanese diplomatic codes.

A worthwhile book on the subject:

Magic: The Untold Story of U.S. Intelligence and the Evacuation of Japanese Residents from the West Coast During WW II
https://www.amazon.com/Magic-Intelligence-Evacuation-Japanese-Residents/dp/0960273611

In late 1940 members of the U.S. Army Signal Intelligence Service broke Japan’s highest level diplomatic code and then constructed a machine that was an analog of the one used by the Japanese. This allowed the U.S. to read Japan’s diplomatic traffic from then until after the end of the war. Intelligence thus gained was cover named MAGIC because it seemed that only magicians could have produced it.

Among the decoded messages of 1941 were a number detailing espionage planning and operations involving Japanese-Americans along the West Coast. In February 1942 President Roosevelt authorized the evacuation of all persons of Japanese ancestry.

In 1983 a congressional commission, ignoring available declassified intelligence and ignorant of MAGIC revelations, concluded the President’s action was the result of racism, war hysteria and lack of political will.

Now for the first time David D. Lowman, using MAGIC messages and declassified Army, Navy and FBI reports, presents the real reasons for the evacuation. As a former high level officer in the National Security Agency and a witness before congressional committees dealing with the evacuation he was uniquely qualified to tell this story. Those who could never quite believe the base motives attributed to our wartime leaders and our country will find Lowman’s story compelling.

There would most likely need to be a declaration of war signed off on by the congress and I dont see that happening.

It should be noted that Earl Warren, the Governor of California, and later a liberal icon on the Supreme Court, supported the internment.

And J. Edgar Hoover, Director of the FBI, liberal hate figure, and the man in charge of counter intelligence in the Second World War, opposed it.
