Ronnie Wood, 69, undergoes surgery for a lung lesion a week before his 70th birthday... and days after his twin daughters turn one

Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood has undergone keyhole surgery for a small lesion on his lung, but is feeling fine, his representative said in a statement in London on Wednesday.

Ronnie, 69, will need no additional treatment and the upcoming Rolling Stones tour of Europe will not be affected, the representative said.

The operation has taken place a week after his twin daughters turned one, and a week before Ronnie celebrates his own birthday.

The musician will be hitting the 70 milestone on June 1.

'I'm so grateful for modern screening which picked this up so early, and would like to thank all the doctors who treated me,' Ronnie said.

The lesion was found during a routine medical exam and had been treated by keyhole surgery and comes after the 'Satisfaction' singer had quit smoking.

A source said at the time: 'Ronnie is giving [cigarettes] up for good. He's really serious about kicking the habit and has been constantly puffing on his vape stick. It's the longest he's gone without cigarettes in 50 years.

'While Sally is over the moon, Keith [Richards; his bandmate] has been telling everyone he looks ridiculous. Keith says giving up fags shows a complete lack of commitment, which has amused Ronnie no end. Keith jokingly told Ronnie they might as well not be pals seeing as they can no longer drink or smoke together anymore.'

She told The Telegraph: 'He’s on my level completely. He’s a very nice and caring person. Oh God, don’t use the word "nice", it’s so boring. He’s very funny, kind and affectionate and welcoming.'

Discussing their age gap, she said: 'Um, well, I know (the age gap's) there. And I wish it wasn’t, but it is. I think I had to say: "I can’t do this because of the age",

'Or I just had to let it go and take it all on board. At no point, years ago, did I say to myself: "I think I’ll go out with someone twice my age", but that is what has happened.'
