'Who else has pulled over to let a Morrisons van through thinking it's an ambulance?': Drivers are being unwittingly duped by the supermarket vans' bright yellow livery

  • Motorists are pulling over to let the yellow supermarket delivery vans pass
  • The Morrisons vehicles are similar in colour and shape to an NHS ambulance
  • A paramedic even jumped in the front seat of a Morrisons van by mistake

Drivers are being confusing by the bright yellow livery of Morrisons vans and pulling over to let the supermarket delivery vehicles pass.

A paramedic even jumped in the front seat of a Morrisons van - when she mistook it for an ambulance.

Claire Thewlis, who works for the Yorkshire Ambulance Service, hopped into the bright yellow van, which was parked directly in front on an ambulance.

Her colleague Gill Johnston pointed out her mistake - but not before snapping a quick picture of Claire sat inside the Morrisons truck.

Claire, from Leeds, posted the image to Facebook, which shows her sitting in the yellow delivery van wearing her green Yorkshire Ambulance Service uniform.

Alongside the image she wrote: 'So last night I took "Getting into the wrong ambulance" to a whole new level!!

'Luckily my lovely crew mate managed to catch the moment so I'd never live it down…… worryingly a true story!!'

Specialist paramedic Tom Pullen told the Mirror Online: 'It's a running joke across all UK ambulance services.

'We always wave to colleagues whenever we drive past each other at work. The amount of times we have waved at a Morrisons van thinking it is another ambulance.

'Also, many friends have said they have pulled over to let a Morrisons van past thinking it was going to an emergency.'

Several drivers have tweeted about mistaking the bright yellow vans for emergency vehicles.

Sharing a picture of one of the vans, journalist Brian Ellis wrote: 'Right, who else has done this . . . pulled over to let a Morrisons delivery van through thinking it's an ambulance?'

Georgia Michell posted: 'Just pulled to the side to let an ambulance go past me, it turns out to be a Morrisons delivery van.'

And Chris Dean ‏said: 'Got home to see an ambulance outside my house. Freaked. Got closer, it was a Morrisons home delivery van with our Christmas booze.'

A Morrisons spokesman told Mirror Online: 'We’re delivering an emergency service to those who need the ingredients for their bolognese.'
