'GREAT reviews!' Trump issues first verdict on his own inaugural speech – as he thanks Fox News for speaking positively
- President Donald Trump tweeted his gratitude to the Fox News Channel – and others he DIDN'T name – for their positive coverage of his Inaugural Address
- Trump has gone out of his way to cross swords with CNN and MSNBC
- A CNN anchor declared his speech 'the most radical' one of its kind in US history
- MSNBC gave a platform to a Democratic lawmaker who said the address was the 'meanest' in history – even though she had boycotted it and didn't attend
Donald Trump began his first full day as America's elected leader by tweeting.
Of course.
At 6:53 a.m. in Washington – presumably from somewhere in the White House – the 45th U.S. president tweeted a thank-you to the media outlets that covered his inaugural address favorably.
He only mentioned one by name.
'A fantastic day and evening in Washington D.C.Thank you to @FoxNews and so many other news outlets for the GREAT reviews of the speech!' he wrote.
Donald Trump lavished praise on the Fox News Channel – but pointedly not on CNN or MSNBC – by tweeting his thanks for positive coverage of his Inaugural Address
The new American president wrote that he had received 'GREAT reviews' from some in media
Fox, considered only most right-leaning cable TV news provider, treated Trump's swearing-in on Friday the way the entire nation regarded President Barack Obama's eight years ago, with a combination of reverence and glee.
But other outlets have regarded the nascent Age of Trump as springboard for channeling Democrats' discontent.
MSNBC interviewed liberal filmmaker Michael Moore and angry actress Debra Messing, and filled hours with commentary comparing Trump's crowd size to Obama's.
One Maryland Democratic Representative told the network's audience that Trump's speech was the 'meanest' in history – despite boycotting it entirely.
The Fox News Channel carried respectful coverage all day. It's the news network Donald Trump watches most.
CNN carried comprehensive wire-to-wire programming about the inauguration, but that included liberal commentators and one anchor who characterized the speech as radical
CNN, which has been Trump's most-vilified media foil for months, was criticized for comparing Trump's crowd on the National Mall with Obama's from 2009 – using a photo shot hours before Friday's ceremonies began.
The day before, the network heavily promoted a story musing on which member of the Obama administration would become president if both Trump and Vice President Mike Pence were assassinated before they could be sworn in.
One CNN anchor called Friday's speech 'one of the most radical inaugural speeches we’ve ever heard.'
Trump used Twitter during his campaign to communicate directly with his supporters and detractors alike.
At one inaugural ball, Trump mocked detractors who said he should stop tweeting
The president will likely have a contentious relationship with the American news media, mirroring the almost daily fights he and reporters picked with each other during the campaign
When he took over the White House's official '@POTUS' account on Friday afternoon, his audience on the social media platform grew to more than 35 million.
Friday night during the second of three inaugural balls, Trump asked the crowd playfully whether or not he should keep tweeting.
'I don't know. Let me ask you: Should I keep the Twitter going or not?' he asked, as cheers erupted.
'Keep it going? I think so. I think so!'
'You know, the enemies keep saying, "Oh, that's terrible",' the new president shrugged.
'But you know, it's a way of bypassing dishonest media, right?'
