Who Malignaggi is (from a hardcore boxing fan) and the farce this all is...

Hardcore boxing fan here. Since 20 years, been watching since I was a kid and I try to put things in perspective here (if I may do so) from a boxing standpoint. My take on this whole Malignaggi sparring drama and Malignaggi in general:
Malignaggi was a good boxer in his prime, couldn't punch at all (when it came to knocking out high level guys), so he used his movement (meaning feet) and danced around a bit and try to land counter punches while moving mostly backwards. One thing he had was a heart as big as a mountain. Never was out of a fight except when the end of his career came. Stood in there with Cotto (future Hall of famer) and never gave up. Amir Khan outclassed him and the ref (Steve Smoger if I remember correctly) had to save Paul from himself. He was good enough to get robbed against Juan Diaz (who was at one point "the man" at 135 pounds). He was a warrior with no punch, good skills and a big mouth which he always used to talk himself into big fights. But here comes the thing that makes the McGregor sparring drama a farce: Paulie - as decent as he was as a boxer- is done when it comes to elite boxing. Shawn Porter blew him out of the ring and made him retire and he himself admitted that his boxing days were over.
So now Mr. McGregor gets Paul into his training camp knowing 4 things:
- he is well known
- he is done as a boxer
- he can't punch
- he is physically smaller than him

Paulie was never anywhere close to being elite, even in his prime. He won a vacant belt against a fringe level gatekeeper and got the other belt from a protected European level boxer who got upgraded as a champion by a fraudulent, corrupt organisation when Shane Mosley got stripped for fighting Mayweather, who refused to pay the sanctioning fee you need to pay to fight for a belt. He's got some bogus decisions against some mediocre opposition level, too.

Good enough to be a top ten guy, but he profited from a watered down era where even recognised world titles are handed out like confectionery.

-he is well known - Same as Floyd
- he is done as a boxer- Same as Floyd after August 26th
- he can't punch - Same as Floyd
- he is physically smaller than him - Same as Floyd

Floyd can't punch? What a dumbass.

- he can't punch - Same as Floyd (blatant stupidity)
- he is physically smaller than him - Same as Floyd (fact)
-LSU isn't even top 10 this year (fact)

If you beat Prime Juan Diaz 2x (tho 1 was robbery) and stop Judah, sorry broski, you be legit AF.

Good post, but minor correction, Diaz was the man at Lightweight (135 which I'm sure you know) before Nate Campbell upset him and Marquez knocked him out.

Also to add, Paulie is not even a good counter puncher, hardly even a decent one. He has a quick and effective up jab, and at times let off quick combos with nothing on them.

Paulie arguably got a gift against Cano. A guy who might not even be a top 30 WW right after he won his belt against Sevchemko too.

McGregor likes them small and retired.
Well, it wouldn't be smart to bring in Anthony Joshua now, would it?

It's one thing to have high quality sparring partners, but why bring in someone that could ruin your chin, ruin your pay day or ruin your confidence. Even tho Paulie's not a big puncher, he has stopped elite boxers (Judah) and is a great boxer; very suprising Conor lasted with him and beat him up, even in an older age.

Won a decision against Judah. He beat Juan twice I agree, but that is the only type of fighter Paulie can look good against. A shorter guy with slower hands. On paper Paulie actually matches up really well with guys like Hatton and Cotto and he was beat up by both..

This is a troll post but I'll put it this way Floyd can make you respect his power, Paulie has literally has no power. I can't imagine how weak he with 16 oz. on.

I never said he was a bum, but there's an astronomical gap between being a solid, run of the mill contender and being elite.

But yeah, we can't deny him that famous stoppage victory over Zab Judah. <JerryWWF>

I am big boxing fan, and no matter what Malignaggi has achieved, I'll always remember him as the guy who got a haircut in the middle of a fight.

<45>

And this whole situation is just a ploy to sell the fight.

You are correct about that of course, my bad.

Is he that sparring partner conor filled in?

Yeah, you know, just that guy who was a two-weight world champion, and fought 16 weeks ago for a WBC title.
Then just a few months later Conor's turned his head into a ball and turned the ring into his personal pinball machine!
