Lincoln manager Danny Cowley up at 5.30am on Sunday to watch footage of North Ferriby as he bids to keep FA Cup giant-killers on promotion track

Danny Cowley could have been forgiven for wanting a few extra hours in bed after masterminding one of the biggest shocks in the history of the FA Cup, but that's just not how the Lincoln City boss operates.

Little more than 12 hours after Cowley and his brother Nicky left Turf Moor following their 1-0 victory at Premier League Burnley, the Imps manager was up at 5.30am on Sunday for a visit to the BBC Breakfast studio in Salford.

Despite being in demand after guiding a non-League side to the last eight for the first time since 1914, the Cowleys also found time in those early hours to analyse match footage in preparation for their side's National League trip to North Ferriby on Tuesday night.

Cowley had planned to leave Turf Moor for east Yorkshire immediately after Saturday’s FA Cup fifth round tie at Turf Moor to spy on his next National League opponents, but was unable to get away due to the media circus.

While some would be tempted to bask in the glory of such a magnificent achievement, the brothers were also hard at work during an hour-long appearance on Five Live's Sportsweek programme, as they bid to keep the National League leaders on course for promotion.

'It's our toughest game of the season. No doubt about that,' Danny old presenter Garry Richardson.

'What happened yesterday has made Tuesday that much more difficult. After being at a Premier League ground Saturday I'm really looking forward to going back to "proper football".

'I was woken up at 5.30am by the BBC Breakfast guys, so the good thing about getting up early is that I've already been able to watch one game. I've watched North Ferriby vs Macclesfield and Nicky's watching Dagenham, so we're doing our analysis work now.

'We've actually got computers on so while we're listening to you we're watching the games, because there obviously has been a media intrusion.

'While that's great for the football club and allows us to raise the profile of Lincoln City and our players, who deserve this moment in the limelight, it's really important we focus on the football and what happens between the paint.'

The Cowleys' media commitments extended to a dream appearance on Match of the Day on Saturday night, where a noticeably clean-shaven Danny got tongues wagging on social media.

'We did an awful lot of media at the ground, maybe two or three hours, then came over to Salford to the BBC studios to do Match of the Day which was a unique experience for us.

'Nicky and I have obviously spent hours, every Saturday night for god knows how long, watching it so to be on there was pretty surreal.

'They gave me an electric razor and said "just trim it, you need to do something and get rid of them grey bits in your beard", so I started and the battery went so I had to have a wet shave.

'I've had a lot of stick on Twitter for shaving my beard off. I didn't know it was that important!'

And who do they want in the next round when the draw is made on Sunday night?

'The last eight of the FA Cup? We're not going to be fussy so we'll see what comes from the draw and we'll enjoy it' Danny said.

Nicky added: 'We had a lot of supporters frustrated because they wanted to go to the Burnley game, so if we got one of the big boys it would be amazing to see all the Lincoln supporters getting behind us.'
