Ford teases Rendezvous in VR, with a Mustang

When it comes to movies, we are inundated with remakes these days. Ghostbusters was redone; a new Spider-man movie is on the way, which reboots a reboot, and so on until the end of time. Even Ford is in on the remake action, with an ode to the film Cʼétait un Rendezvous (or just Rendezvous for short).

In case you're unfamiliar with the film, you can check out our quick overview, here. Short story shorter, it's a roughly nine minute film of a man tearing through France, dodging traffic, to meet his lovely significant other. There's no narration, it was all one take, and only filmed with a bumper camera. Current accepted dogma is that the car used in the film was director Claude Lelouch's Mercedes-Benz 450SEL 6.9, with Ferrari engine sounds inserted as the audio track.

The Ford version, called Re-Rendezvous, uses a Mustang GT, and should be quite close to the original. The company even partnered with Lelouch to produce it. It's also in VR, which really impressed Lelouch, who said, "I had goose bumps watching C'etait un Rendez-Vous forty years later in virtual reality." Ford says that the remake won't be exact due to some roads no longer existing, but it should be close.

The trailer features about a minute and a half of footage, and it looks promising. The deep, angry intake noise from the V8 sounds excellent, and the VR is a cool touch. The roles are reversed here, too, with the woman racing to meet her man. The full version will be released online later this month, but you should check out the trailer above. And if you haven't seen the original, you can still find it on YouTube, and you can even get it on Blu-Ray.
