Canada man’s ‘Grabher’ license plate deemed ‘socially unacceptable’ even though it’s his last name
He had a license to grab.
Lorne Grabher received a letter from the Nova Scotia Registrar of Motor Vehicles informing him his license plate was being pulled because it could be misinterpreted “as a socially unacceptable slogan” — despite the fact that it merely reads his last name.
He said in a Facebook post earlier this week the “GRABHER” license plate has been in his family for over 25 years, changing hands between members without issue.
“I was taken aback,” Grabher told CBS News. “How can you say my name is a slogan when it is not?

“Where does the province of Nova Scotia and the government of Nova Scotia get the right to discriminate against a person’s name?”
Grabher said his father always taught him to be proud of the family name and was irked by the lone complaint filed against his personalized plate.
Grabher acknowledged the cancellation of his plate could have something to do with President Trump's infamous "Access Hollywood" recording.

The local Department of Transportation in statement cited by CBS News said it was impossible to distinguish whether the plate boasted a name or something less appropriate.
“A complaint was received outlining how some individuals interpret (the name) as misogynistic and promoting violence against women.

“With no way to denote that it is a family name on the plate, the department determined it was in the public’s best interest to remove it from circulation,” the statement read.
Grabher said he’s never once heard a complaint about his plate and pointed out his son, who lives in Alberta, had no problem of getting a “GRABHER” license of his own.
He acknowledged the cancellation of his decades-old plate could be the result of the infamous recording of President Trump's crude remarks about grabbing women.
Still though, he was put off by the comparison.
“Donld Trump is a totally different person,” Grabher told CBS. “He’s ignorant. He doesn’t care about anybody and I shouldn’t be put in a class like him.”
