Chelsea re-sign best third goalkeeper in the world Eduardo

Since Henrique Hilario retired to become part of the goalkeeper-coaching staff, Chelsea have been searching for that elusive, most perfect third goalkeeper. It would appear that we may have found the true successor in a fellow former Portuguese international. Earlier today, Chelsea confirmed that Eduardo has signed up for another season.

Eduardo played a grand total of zero minutes last season in six bench appearances in all competitions, but his real value was on the training ground where he seemed to fit in very well with both the two main goalkeepers, the rest of the squad, and the training staff as well.

“Since joining us last summer, Eduardo has been a model professional. He has used his wealth of experience at the top level to bring the very best from his fellow goalkeepers and has been a reliable, popular and respected member of the squad. We are delighted he has chosen to commit his future to Chelsea.”

With Asmir Begovic set to leave this summer, having Eduardo around also counts as insurance policy in case we can’t acquire a homegrown option (or promote, say, Jamal Blackman?) to back up Thibaut Courtois next season.

“I am very happy to stay at Chelsea for another year. This season has been very successful for the club, and everybody has made me feel like a part of the family. I hope next season can be just as positive and we can win many more trophies.”
