Today I learned that I've been very enthusiastically singing the wrong lyrics to Under Pressure for a long time. Thanks, pigeons!

I don't think I ever realised how great that song is now.

This is so beautiful and heartbreaking at the same time.

This is such a perfect comic, and highlights the beautiful simplicity of the lyric (and beautiful sentiment that's kind of belied by what an awesome jam it is) and now I'm going to go down a YT hole because now I miss Freddie and David and I'm misting up. Thank you, that was lovely.

Youth Radio's outLoud Radio has a piece circulating on Public Radio Remix that comes up every once in a while, That's My Song: Under Pressure. Listening to that piece made me google the lyrics and that's when I learned that I, too, had been quite mistaken about the lyrics.

My first encounter with the song was when I purchased a cassette of Queen's Hot Space album, which is sort of the album where Queen zigged when everyone else was zagging. But it's the album with Under Pressure on it, and I bought it when it came out, and I had no idea what was going on in that. I was only 14, so maybe I can be forgiven that.

Honestly the album is pretty good. But it broke Queen's momentum in a pretty big way commercially.

I had no idea how much I needed this. Thank you.

This reminds me of Nina Katchadouria's Under Pressure which is simply but profoundly two adjacent video screens where Nina, as two different characters, lip syncs the same. Like the pigeons it's humorous and earnest yet as you are amused the power of the song to devastate you still comes through. (link is about the piece but not the piece itself. Get thee to SFMOMA to see it, perhaps?)

That was pretty good. Now where's the autotuned pigeon remix of the song I was expecting?

I always get teary-eyed listening to that song, but I never thought a non-auditory rendition would do it to me! Dammit, I've been cutting enough onions today!
