Wild GOP debate repeatedly goes off the rails as candidates shred each other on stage

"...Some of the last fireworks of the night came when Cruz attacked Trump's supposedly "very, very liberal" policies.

"Flexibility is a good thing, but you shouldn't be flexible on core principles," Cruz said. "I like Donald. He is an amazing entertainer. But his policies for most of his life..have been very, very liberal."

Cruz continued:

For most of his life, he has described himself as very pro-choice and as a supporter of partial-birth abortion. Right now today as a candidate, he supports federal taxpayer funding for Planned Parenthood. I disagree with him on that.

"You are the single biggest liar," Trump shot back. "You probably are worse than Jeb Bush...This guy lied about Ben Carson when he took votes away from Ben Carson in Iowa and he just continues."

...Today, we had robo-calls saying, "Donald Trump is not going to run in South Carolina," where I'm leading by a lot..."Vote for Ted Cruz." This is the same thing he did to Ben Carson. This guy will say anything. Nasty guy. Now I know why he doesn't have one endorsement from any of his colleagues.

..."I will say it is fairly remarkable to see Donald defending Ben after he called him pathological and compared him to a child molester, both of which were offensive and wrong," Cruz replied.

Cruz continued by saying that Trump "didn't disagree with the substance that he supported taxpayer funding for Planned Parenthood."

"Donald has this weird pattern," Cruz added. "When you point to his own record, he screams, 'Liar, liar, liar.'"

Trump started shouting over him, saying, "Where did I support it? Where did I support it?"

After some more back and forth over Planned Parenthood, Cruz said that if Trump were president, the Second Amendment would "go away" and that Trump would appoint liberals to the Supreme Court."...

Trump is the only one with names to replace Scalia.

Whoever the Republican nominee is will shred the Dem nominee in a debate. I like live practices.

What I was looking for occurred: Trump, Rubio, and Carson all called out Cruz for lies. Both Trump and Rubio supported Dr. Carson in the creative vote-getting by Cruz in Iowa. Rubio and Dr. Carson were quite strong and impressive last night. All that has to hurt Cruz, especially since he didn’t give any real strong defense of this truthfulness.

If you vote for Donald Trump you will be very sorry when it comes to counting votes. Sure there are people who like him. Hell, they adore him. But there are those that hate him. Really, really hate him. And his negatives are much higher than his positives. 45% of the Republican vote is not going to get him elected dog catcher.

Did you hear that Trump won NH? He had one less delegate than Cruz in IA. He leads in every national poll. He had 10,000+ at each of his last two rallies. How can that happen with such high negatives??

Did you see Geraldo Rivera huddled with Donald Trump in the spin room? Ted Cruz was doing an interview with Bret Bier/Fox, and in the sea of bodies behind them, there was Geraldo close-talking with Trump. Was Rivera trying to discern why Trump was orange, probably, or maybe it was just members of the NYC celebrity bubble maintaining their strong social ties.

..."Look at that. LOOK AT IT. If it weren't for the suit, he'd practically be camouflaged. It's almost poetic. The one thing Trump needed to do was be less visible, and he was so close to facing into the background."... Donald Trump Was Particularly Orange Tonight

And what's wrong with John Kasich's eyes - his eyeballs flicked back and forth so fast I was grateful when the camera switched to a side shot. Is that normal for him, for anyone?

And Jeb Bush! Those glasses! Is he trying to look like Jed Clammpet's granny - is he morphing into Barbara?

And Ted Cruz, is he tall enough to be elected president!? Why should brains rate so high?

Rubio, Rubio, Rubio - shouldn't we worry more about a Dorian Gray painting in his attic and less about his fishing boat?

Dr. Ben Carson got to his podium without any difficulty or help from Donald Trump this time.
It looks like the good doctor is returning that favor.

And finally, the two socialists who long for a view of the USSR - Hillary! and Bern.

.

No one can deny that the GOP field certainly has a diversity of color.

Where’d you get that 45% number from ?

I did read at least 20% of Dems ( Reagan Dems )will vote for Trump . Add in all the indies and those that stayed home in 2012 and 2008 and Trump looks good to go !

I don’t think that Bush helped himself out at all last night, at all. When he projects outrage, weakness comes through with it. The opposite of Trump.

Cruz has to paint himself as the ultra-conservative. It's all he has going for him and it works well in the primary election. Not sure how well it plays in a general election though.

I consider Trump to be conservative enough and I think he is able to appeal to demographic groups that Cruz will send running. I think Cruz will repeat the Todd Akin and Richard Mourdock experience for us. The majority of Americans are not ultra-conservative.

“All that has to hurt Cruz, especially since he didn’t give any real strong defense of this truthfulness.”

With the dirty politics in IA and Ted’s lies last night there is no possible way for him to defend himself as truthful.

I agree.

Cruz’s punches hit home.

“Cruz said Trump would appoint liberals to the Supreme Court and warned the Second Amendment would go away under a Trump presidency.

“The reason, principal matters, sadly, was illustrated by the first questions today. The next president is going to appoint one, two, three, four Supreme Court justices,” Cruz explained.

“If Donald Trump is president, he will appoint liberals,” Cruz warned. “If Donald Trump is president you Second Amendment will go away.”

Then Ted Cruz listed Trump’s history of supporting Pelosi, Reid Schumer and Clinton.

Trump said Bush lied about WMDS before the Iraq war. Bush was accused at the time of over stating the case before the US entered the war. That was by the watchdog team under Hans Blick, iirc, who said they had found none. I never believed Blick. Apparently, Trump did.

Trump said 9/11 was on Bush’s watch. It was. There’s no denying that. I always gave Bush a break on that until Bush went nuclear on illegal immigration.

We had most of those terrorists on visa overstays learning how to fly in our flight schools due to our stupid laws on immigration.

You don’t get a break on terrorist immigrants and then turn around and advocate for more of the same.

I sort of like the fact that they do confront each other rather than simply agreeing like PIAPS and Mr. Green Jeans

That leaves 55% of Republicans that didn’t vote for Trump, all of which you assume will vote for Trump, And 20% of Crossover Dems will not give Trump a win no matter how you count it. And all of us “Indies” that stayed home see a candidate just as bad as Romney and McCain in Trump.

I was appalled at the See-B.S. moderators. They needled and wheedled in ways that were guaranteed to produce as much bratty fireworks as they could on the stage; and, once started, they kept throwing gasoline on the fire to keep it going. They purposely and gratuitously pushed every hot button they could find.
