Anyone who's stepped foot in a bowling alley or mini-golf course's arcade knows Street Fighter 2's attract mode. The theme comes up and then BLAMMO, one guy in a white t-shirt drops a shirtless dude with a lightning right hook to the kisser. The camera tilts up as the game's theme fills your ears. And then that's the last we see of these two guys. So who were they?
Well, their names are Scott (the white dude) and Max (the black guy) officially. That is according to a Capcom web page unearthed by the Street Fighter subreddit a couple days ago.
Why this has come to light now, who knows. Street Fighter 2 did launch in 1991, 25 years ago, but that anniversary was in February. We're relying on a Google translation which raises about as many questions as it answers. ("Scott" for example, dislikes "caterpillar." Max dislikes "sober thing." OK.)
Some had assumed that these two were Mike and Joe, who were NPC opponents from the first Street Fighter. Apparently that is not the case. What this means for Scott and Max going forward, who knows, but now you have your canonical answer.
