This video card's 'VR Edition' is clever

So how do you design a video card specifically for virtual reality? EVGA thinks it has at least one answer. The EVGA GeForce GTX 980 Ti VR EDITION isn't just a powerful card, it comes with hardware to make the act of using your virtual reality headset a bit easier.

The secret is in the 5.25" drive bay that includes two USB connections as well as an HDMI port. While it's relatively common to see USB connections on the front or sides of a PC gaming case, the HDMI port is almost always kept in the rear of the case, and for good reason: How often are you going to be connecting and disconnecting your monitor or screen?

But VR changes that a bit, since Rift or Vive players will be needing extra USB connections for the hardware, and it's very possible they're going to be connecting and disconnecting the head-mounted display relatively often. That process gets a bit more convenient with the bay.

You can check out the spec sheet if you'd like a deeper dive into the tech that powers the card, but for laypeople one can just say this is well above the necessary spec for your Oculus Rift, although neither Vive nor HTC has released details on what it will take to run the VIve.

The EVGA GeForce GTX 980 Ti VR EDITION is also a $699.99 part but hey, no one said the future would be cheap.
