SABO project has redesigned a paris apartment located inside a 1920s industrial building in the city’s 11th arrondissement. the design intervention is focused on the addition of a central island, which defines both circulation and programs within the renovated space.

40 aluminum sheets were custom punched, folded, anodized and mounted on a thin metal structure

SABO project stripped down the initial apartment to raw concrete, which preserves the industrial heritage of the space. the addition of a central island also serves as a buffer zone between the entrance, main living space, and dressing room. both horizontal and vertical circulation are informed by the island, which ensures there is no need for any walls or partitions.

the exposed concrete ceiling runs continuously throughout the apartment, while circulation establishes a subtle gradation between the main space and more private areas. the island is clad in 40 aluminum sheets that are custom punched, folded, anodized and mounted on a metal structure creating a distinct contrast with the materiality of the raw concrete. the addition of perforated shutters also contributes to a new design language within the home, creating a fluid conversation between old and new.
