You have to admit, there isn't a whole heck of a lot in Roswell. It is a little extreme for such a punishment on a kid. Not saying it is okay, but Roswell is just bump in the road, wher any novelty is crushed by the local Walmart.
I'd like to think if they did crash on Earth, they would do in somewhere other than that refuse dump of a town. Tries to be a city, but just not quite.

Roswell.  If you're driving from San Diego to Oklahoma City you'll hang a left in Roswell.  There is a Denny's there.  Do not eat at that Denny's, it's disgusting.  I did twice some 10-15 years ago.  First time I thought "this can't be right".  2 years later found myself at the same Denny's, thought "you have got to be shiatting me".

Dirty tables, filthy restrooms, not a place to stop for a meal on a 10 hour drive.

Some awesome museums/UFO thingies tho.

This isn't punishment.  The kid will never know the difference between a juvenile detention facility and life in Roswell, NM.

I see where the judge was coming from; this guy is a local-probably grew up nearby-likely knew the people he stole it from. But, even if he is not-stealing a UFO in Roswell--Really? He had to have known it'd be missed, so he probably had a more nefarious intent--like becoming fark-famous maybe?
