As a vet, i support this entirely. There is no greater act of honor, bravery, and compassion than to die protecting others.

If we don't honor that, do we really honor anything?

Kid's a hero in my book, regardless of where or how they choose to honor his life and untimely death.

2018-02-20 12:47:53 AM
Philosophically, do we --- should we --- can we --- draw a line between men and women who feel an occupational calling to enter a line of work where they're likely to someday be a hero, and all others who in suddenly dangerous situations are once-in-a-lifetime heroes spontaneously, stirred to action from their soul and conscience?

Because damn, this one just chokes me up.

You're overthinking it.

Did someone die to save the lives of others? Yes? Question answered. A hero is identified.

The rest is piffle compared to that.

I could really go for some sushi. for his noble sacrife, almost as noble as my sacrifice for being here instead of golfing amirite, during an incident almost certainly caused by laws I signed last year. Thanks for proving my point without realizing it.  The point is we need to stop fetishizing the military.   Its not what makes someone good or bad, the kid was an honorable person independent of any military training.   Its the same way atheists manage to calm their tits from constant rape and murder even without the benefit of a skywizard holding our balls in a vice.

You're an idiot. This has nothing to do with fetishizing the military. The point is the kid's dream, at least as I understand the article, was to serve in the military. So give the kid his military funeral. If his dream was to work for Subway, I'd sign the petition to name a five dollar footlong after him. The kid has earned it.

Enjoy your caste system.   I guess the gym teacher who died the same way doesn't get medals or a parade because he wasn't in the right club.   I guess he wasn't as good a person.

Actually that coach has received more recognition than this 15 year old boy. That coach will have stadiums named after him, but this is about the boy that put his life in danger so others could live.

God bless both of them.

It's honoring his extinguished dream, not fetishising military service.

Since this is fark, why don't you start a rumour the gym teacher dreamed of dying under a pile of busty hookers, and see how many you can rope into hid service.
