Poaching fish is a crime against nature. Fish should be fried, baked, smoked, or broiled.

As a fisherman from Missouri this story makes little sense. They must have some really strict regulations in Tennessee. In Missouri you have the legal right to be on the bank of any navigable water all the way up to the high water line. And a 5 bass limit between two people? Unheard of!

I don't know, I've had some really lovely poached salmon.

And you left out raw.  Raw fish is delicious.

And since we're talking about bass, you also left out grilled, which is probably the best way to cook bass.

Ahem. FTA:
"The statewide limit for black bass in (any) combination is only five per person, making the duo 30 bass over the limit," he said.

Also, these shiatweasles were putting in and pulling out their canoe on private property, hence the trespass charge.

Every state is different.  In Kentucky, the bottom of a stream is owned by the landowner on the deed, regardless of the type of waterbody. The water itself is public. Floating down any creek or river is not trespassing, but if you step out of the boat, onto the creek/river bottom or onto the bank on someone else's property, you are trespassing.

Some states observe the highwater type rules (Michigan also does), some don't.

Each area has its own limits. The little creeks are much better protected than the big lakes for recreationional fishing.

Why bass? Lots better eatin' fish out there. Heck, bluegill are delicious and worth catching if you pan dress them instead of wasting half the fish by filleting them. No limit in most places as well.

A black guy and a white guy doing this together? Sounds like it'd be a good buddy comedy

I've fished and shot on other people's private property before. You ask for permission ahead of time, and you conduct yourself politely and responsibly while you're there. Don't break the law. Maybe give a bottle of booze or something to a person who has let you use and enjoy their land that year. Following those rules can lead to access to some very fine sporting opportunities.

Or you can do what the assholes in TFA did. Trespass, act like shiatheads, break laws on top of trespassing, get arrested, get shamed in the news, and serve whatever punishment the court hands down. Those idiots deserve what they get, and probably a little more on top of it. That kind of asshattery makes other people who enjoy the outdoors look bad, even if their own conduct is perfectly respectable.

I think that pretty much covers it.

Basically a couple of assholes, I'm guessing drunk. Fine the sheit out of them, and if they can't/won't pay, lock them up for a bit. That sort of behavior is what can threaten ecosystems for a long time and fark them up for everyone. No mercy!

My wife's brothers (both of them) got caught poaching fish one season. They were fishing out of the fish bypass ladder for a local dam.

Man, were they ever pissed. They absolutely hated Fish & Game after that, especially since they took their expensive fishing poles and all their fish. They just wouldn't understand why they had to take the fish and their poles.

They lost their fishing license for the year and were on probation for some time.

While they were on probation, Fish & Game officers would regularly drop by the house at random times for inspection. One time, the boys didn't fill out their deer tag properly (they didn't fill in the date of kill) and took it off the antlers prior to the legal requirement. Just looked up the regs, and you're  a required to keep the tags on the antlers for the entire season plus 15 days. They lost their hunting license for the rest of the season and the following year. And the office took all the meat.

That was last year, I think? Maybe two years ago. All of this has happened within the lifetime of my son, and he isn't even 4 yet.

Plus, the older of the two brothers has two DUIs on his record, and the younger brother has at least one. And they blame everyone but themselves for all of this. They especially blame Fish & Game.

/Yup, they're rich white assholes who both strongly support Trump.
//The only reason the older brother even graduated from college is because mommy would do his homework and take some of his exams when he skipped out to go drinking or hunting; she didn't want little Joey Simpson to have a bad life by failing college.
/// Family full of dishonorable cheaters; and my wife wonders why I can't stand them. I'm just glad she ain't nothing like them.
