You know about burying the lede, right? When someone tells a seemingly mundane story and the wildest and most interesting part is just thrown in right at the end, like an afterthought? On Monday, Variety reported that the reshoots on Justice League are going on far longer and costing much more money than usual, causing complications with some of its more in-demand cast members. And yes, that's interesting and worth hearing about—but it's nothing compared to what it means for Superman.

The latest marketing basically confirms the most predictable "twist" of 2017.

According to Variety, Henry Cavill is currently filming the sixth Mission Impossible film, a movie for which he had to grow a mustache. However, Paramount, the studio making Mission Impossible will not permit Cavill to shave or use a fake mustache, which means that he's currently filming his new Superman scenes with said mustache, which Variety reports will be digitally removed for Justice League. Which now means there is a likely a team of post-production professionals tasked with the vital assignment of making sure that not a whit of Cavill-stache appears in the Justice League's plight against whoever it is they're fighting. (The trailer isn't terribly clear.)

Compounding the absurdity is the fact that Cavil's Superman died in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, although you'll be forgiven for forgetting that, since that movie came out a decade ago. I think we're supposed to maybe pretend that he's going to stay dead? I don't know. He's in the first poster but none of the trailers; marketing is weird. Honestly, I don't know what the fuss is. He should be able to keep it for the movie. After all, death followed by resurrection is a plenty good reason to start sporting a rich and well-cultivated mustache.
