‘MLB The Show 17’ servers mostly back online following launch day troubles

MLB The Show 17 - The Show Show with Griffey | PS4
After a torrential downpour of connectivity issues on MLB The Show 17‘s launch day, the grounds crew has rolled up the tarp, allowing players to take the online field. Reports of online connectivity issue dropped considerably on Reddit, Twitter, and Down Detector on Wednesday, a day after the game launched. While intermittent problems appear to persist, it seems that the majority of players — including us — have full access to the game’s features at this time.

If you were gearing up for some online baseball when MLB The Show 17 launched on Tuesday, you may have found yourself standing in the video game equivalent of the on-deck circle. MLB The Show 17‘s servers experienced significant issues out of the gate. In a series of tweets starting just prior to the game’s early Tuesday launch, Sony addressed the network problems.

Putting the final touches on servers to let you play online & redeem preorder bonuses. More updates to follow soon.

Then two hours after launch…

Servers are in process of going live. Thanks for your patience! Some may encounter unusually long access times but these should resolve soon

— MLB The Show (@MLBTheShow) March 28, 2017

And then the confirmation of widespread issues:

We’ve received reports of slow/unresponsive servers; engineers are working hard to resolve. More updates ASAP. Thank you for your patience.

— MLB The Show (@MLBTheShow) March 28, 2017

The responses to the trio of Twitter posts were less than happy to say the least.

We booted up the game for ourselves, and received a network error upon landing on the main menu, followed by a message stating that we had been disconnected from The Show Online. Diamond Dynasty, the card-collecting staple and one of the biggest draws of the game, was completely inaccessible due to the server outage.

The issues extended to pre-order bonuses like card packs and stubs. For users who purchased the $70 MVP Edition, their packs and stubs couldn’t be redeemed.

Launch day server woes are hardly an extraordinary occurrence for AAA games, but it doesn’t negate the frustration of those players who largely bought the game to play in the online multiplayer mode with friends.

Thankfully, all signs point to a substantially more stable online service in The Show‘s second day on the diamond. If you’re still having issues with the online service, check back with us, as we’ve reached out to Sony and will update if we hear more.

PlayStation showed off 7 radical indie games today
Quill approaches a giant tree with a marking on it in Moss: Book II.

On February 10, PlayStation highlighted seven new indie games in the works for PS4, PS5, and PlayStation VR. While none of the announcements were on the level of yesterday's Nintendo Direct, quite a few unique games still got their time in the spotlight. These are the seven intriguing indie games that PlayStation highlighted.
Moss: Book II

The first game PlayStation showed was the sequel to Moss, one of the best VR games out there. It got a PlayStation Blog post mainly focused on world design. Polyarc explained how rooms are much bigger and interconnected in Moss: Book II, so players will have a chance to revisit areas they like and see them from different angles. Moss: Book II will be released this Spring, so it doesn't look like it will be available on the PlayStation VR2.
Animal Well
Animal Well - Announcement Trailer | PS5
Next, PlayStation showed a platformer for PS5 called Animal Well with a trailer and PlayStation Blog post. Just one person made this minimalist pixel-art platformer, and they plan to incorporate survival horror elements and mind-bending puzzles and secrets into the game. Animal Well will be released for PS5 sometime in late 2022 or early 2023.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge - Splinter Reveal Trailer | PS4
The highlight of today's wave of indie game announcements was Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge. A new trailer for the game was released and confirmed that Master Splinter is playable. This is the first time he's been playable in a TMNT game, and his move set is packed with plenty of references to the show. A gameplay video with commentary that lasts nearly nine minutes was also uploaded and gave us our first good uncut look at how Shredder's Revenge will play. For fans of classic beat 'em up, specifically, the TMNT ones, Shredder's Revenge looks like it will be a blast from the past. It launches later this year.
Post Void
Post Void - Announcement Trailer | PS4
Post Void takes the prize for the weirdest announcement. The previously released PC game is like a mix between Cruelty Squad and Doom. It's a roguelike with psychedelic visuals where players will have to move fast or die. It will be released for PS4 and PS5 this spring.
Salt and Sacrifice
Salt and Sacrifice - Release Date Announce Trailer | PS5, PS4
Salt and Sacrifice is a sequel to Salt and Sanctuary, a Dark Souls-inspired sidescrolling action game and one of the most notable PlayStation indie games. In a new trailer and PlayStation Blog post, the developers highlighted the PvP element of Salt and Sacrifice and confirmed that it will be released for PS4 and PS5 on May 10.
Samurai Gunn 2
Samurai Gunn 2 - Announcement Trailer | PS5
Samurai Gunn 2 is a fighting game where characters die in just one hit. With a new trailer and PlayStation Blog post, its developers confirmed that the game would come to PS5 and feature crossover characters and stages from popular indie games like Among Us, Spelunky 2, and Minit.
Hello Neighbor 2
Hello Neighbor 2 - Pre-Order Trailer | PS5, PS4
As the final indie announcement of the day, tinyBuild games confirmed that Hello Neighbor 2 is coming to PS4 and PS5. The Hello Neighbor games are popular with streamers as players try to survey and escape the grasp of a cast of creepy characters. Those who pre-order the game can try a bet on April 7.

The Wolf Among Us 2 will launch in five parts next year
Bibgy smokes a cigarette in front of a full moon.

More than two years after its reveal at The Game Awards 2019, Telltale Games re-revealed The Wolf Among Us 2 on The Game Awards' YouTube channel today. A new trailer was released and a 2023 launch was confirmed.
The trailer follows Bigby as he discusses his tactics as a private investigator to a support group and confronts some magical criminals, including the Scarecrow and Tin Man from The Wizard of Oz. His opponents get the upper hand, but Bigby becomes a werewolf to fight back.
The Wolf Among Us 2 - OFFICIAL Full Trailer (2022)
In an interview after the trailer, the developers explained that this game takes place six months after the first game. It will follow Snow White and Bigby as they try to rebuild Fabletown in a less corrupt way. The presentation also confirmed that Adam Harrington and Erin Yvette will reprise their roles as Bigby and Snow White, respectively. The actors teased increased tensions between the two characters as Bigby is a loose cannon and Snow White doesn't want to pick favorites while she's mayor.
The whole season will last five episodes, though Telltale and developer AdHoc teased that episodes won't come out until all of them are done and can be released in quick succession. As such, it seems like all episodes will be out in 2023, and we won't have to wait several months between each piece of the story like we did with season 1.
The Wolf Among Us 2 will be released for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S in 2023. The PC version will be an Epic Games Store exclusive at launch.

MLB The Show 22 is coming to Nintendo Switch and Game Pass
MLB The Show 22 key art shows cover star Shohei Ohtani hitting, pointing, and pitching.

San Diego Studio's baseball sim MLB The Show will launch on April 5. Like last year's entry, MLB The Show 22 will be multiplatform, and Nintendo Switch is joining the console lineup this year.
We haven't seen MLB The Show 22 in action on Nintendo Switch just yet, as the game's reveal trailer simply focuses on live-action footage of cover star Shohei Ohtani. MLB The Show 22's store page confirms that the Switch version will feature cross-play and cross-progression with the PlayStation and Xbox releases.
MLB The Show 22 - Cover Athlete Reveal: Defining A Legend - Nintendo Switch
It also teases MLB The Show 22's new features, like new difficulty options and more elaborate intro presentations. Sony still intends to release the Nintendo Switch port on the same day as the other versions. MLB The Show 22 will cost $60 on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. On PS5 and Xbox Series X, it will cost $70.
When Sony renewed its license with the MLB in December 2019, it promised to bring the baseball series to platforms outside of the PlayStation ecosystem. As Sony is usually very protective of its first-party games, this news came as a bit of a surprise. Both Xbox and Nintendo retweeted the announcement when it happened, and now we'll finally see MLB The Show on all three major consoles.
MLB The Show also returns to Xbox Game Pass this year. In 2021, the MLB forced Sony to put the game on the service. That deal was successful enough to repeat this year, so Xbox One and Xbox Series X players can once again expect a Sony game to launch day one on the service.
MLB The Show 22 will be released for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and Nintendo Switch on April 5.
