Grand Seiko releases a new GMT with Hi-beat movement which is inspired by the peacock. The mysterious peacock plumage inspires the motif on the dial in a strikingly beautiful new limited edition watch.

The Grand Seiko Hi-Beat 36000 Limited Edition: SBGJ227

The dial in the latest GS captures the beauty of the peacock’s plumage. Deep green, and stamped with the pattern of the feather, the dial is striking yet subtle.

The case and movement is the same as the Grand Seiko SBGJ005 which won the  “Petite Aiguille” award prize at the Grand Prix de Genève in 2014. This case is a contemporary re-interpretation of the acclaimed 44GS design from 1967 that set the Grand Seiko style. The 44GS was the first Grand Seiko to redefine what is called the GS Grammar of Design.  Like every Grand Seiko watch, it offers highly polished, distortion-free surfaces, razor edged hands for high legibility and perfect comfort on the wrist. The distortion-free surfaces are achieved with Zaratsu polishing, a technique that requires the greatest skill and hand craftsmanship. We covered the technique in our report of the Presentation on Grand Seiko here.

The hi-beat GMT movement 9S86 is assembled in the Shizukuishi Watch Studio in Morioka where all Grand Seiko mechanical watches are manufactured and assembled. The Spring Drive and Quartz Grand Seikos are manufactured in Shiojiri.

All Grand Seikos are assembled and finished by hand, by the studio’s craftsmen and women. In both performance and appearance, it expresses the very best of Seiko’s mechanical watchmaking. The caliber has a high accuracy of +5 to -3 seconds a day and a power reserve of 55 hours. The GMT hand can be used as a dual time indicator with the hour hand being adjustable independently as the time of day hands continue to mark time.
