This week, Star Wars fans got an early look at some of the toys from Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens hitting shelves soon, and now Lucasfilm and Disney have provided a sneak peek at the movie itself with a brief, new teaser for the film.

Posted to the official Star Wars Instagram account, the 15-second teaser manages to cram in some exciting new footage from the film that concludes with a shot of Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) and his triple-bladed lightsaber facing off against Finn (John Boyega).

“There’s been an awakening,” intones the narrator (rumored to be Andy Serkis). “Have you felt it?”

Along with the closing shot of Kylo Ren and Finn, the teaser also features a broad shot of the assembled stormtroopers of the “First Order,” as well as the popular ball-droid BB-8 and Rey (Daisy Ridley) looking skyward with some concern.

A new, full-length trailer is expected to premiere soon.

Set 30 years after the events of Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi, The Force Awakens introduces a young cast of newcomers to the Star Wars universe and brings back some familiar faces in their fan-favorite roles. The film is directed by J.J. Abrams (Star Trek).

Along with Driver, Boyega, Ridley, and Serkis, the film’s cast includes returning Star Wars veterans Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker, as well as new additions Oscar Isaac, Domhnall Gleeson, Max von Sydow, Lupita Nyong’o, Crystal Clarke, Pip Anderson, Christina Chong, and Miltos Yerolemou.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens hits theaters December 18, and will be followed by Star Wars Anthology: Rogue One on December 16, 2016, and the still-untitled Star Wars: Episode VIII on May 26, 2017. A solo movie featuring a young Han Solo is expected to premiere May 25, 2018.

The 10 best Star Wars action scenes, ranked
Luke Skywalker faces Darth Vade in The Empire Strikes Back.

If there's one thing that Star Wars does better than any other space opera, it's action. Since the debut of the original Star Wars film in 1977, the franchise has continuously upped its action game and put other franchises to shame. This week, the legacy continues with Ahsoka, a new Star Wars spinoff series heading to Disney+. If the trailers are any indication, fans are in for more lightsaber action and intrigue.

When considering the greatest action scenes in Star Wars, we decided that everything in the movies, the live-action series, and the animated series was fair game. However, the franchise's epic space battles have been left out of this list because we wanted to focus on the more visceral action scenes between two or more characters. After all, that is where the greatest drama can be found, as you'll soon see in our roundup of the 10 best Star Wars action scenes.

The best female Star Wars characters, ranked
Rosario Dawson in The Mandalorian.

Although it's gotten better in recent years, the world of Star Wars has been traditionally dominated by men. Men have, for the most part, been the main characters of these stories, and, stereotypically at least, been the biggest fans of the franchise. All along, though, Star Wars has had compelling female characters that were well worth rooting for or vilifying.

While the full list of important female Star Wars characters is quite long, we've narrowed this list down to the nine who are the most pivotal in franchise history and ranked them.

Adam Driver is one of the finest actors of his generation, and if you don't believe me, trust Martin Scorsese. Versatility is one of Driver's greatest strengths. The 39-year-old has found success in nearly every genre, from dramas (Scorsese's Silence) and comedies (Girls) to coming-of-age stories (Frances Ha) and blockbusters (Star Wars).

After starring in the sci-fi adventure, 65, Driver will next be seen in Michael Mann's long-awaited biopic, Ferrari, set to arrive on December 25, 2023. Driver stars as Enzo Ferrari, the Italian racing driver and founder of the legendary car manufacturer Ferrari.
