Chelsea were taken all the way by Norwich City, but the Premier League champions prevail with some quite brilliant spot-kicks as they set up a fourth round tie with Newcastle United.

Full credit to Norwich this evening though, they have taken the Premier League champions all the way. Can they now steal this cup tie on penalties. Chelsea are going first. There is no ABBA system tonight by the way...

I would argue Morata could clearly stay on his feet but there is no denying Christoph Zimmermann clearly had his hands on the Chelsea striker...

Penalty shootout to be contested

Marco Stiepermann replaces Todd Cantwell for the final few minutes of a highly controversial extra period.

Drama! Morata is booked for diving inside the box despite Christoph Zimmermann appearing to haul down the striker - although again the Spaniard goes down too easily.

Understandably he is furious to be booked for diving, and his dissent towards the referee leads to a red card!

We are in the last minute as Norwich prepare a final switch.  There will be two added minutes for Chelsea to find a winner otherwise it is penalties.

Pedro takes one for the team, sort of, as he halts a Norwich counter attack with a clear foul. The only trouble is he has already been booked for diving so he departs the field with a second yellow.

Pinto has run out of steam out there having picked up cramp and is replaced by Alex Tettey for the final four minutes.

Wes Hoolahan, who came on in the second half of normal times, takes the captain's armband.

Another chance goes begging for Morata who despite heading a cross towards goal can only nod it straight at Gunn. Five minutes to play...

Norwich are looking tired now and very much like a team who are settling for penalty kicks. Chelsea continue to pile forward but there is a break in play as Ivo Pinto is treated for cramp by his team-mates. There are seven minutes left as home supporters jeer the Canaries captain - suspecting gamesmanship.

And yet more Chelsea penalty appeals. Referee Graham Scott is still having none of it though as despite furious handball claims against Klose, play is waved on.

Credit to the referee for holding his bottle, having now turned down four Blues spot-kick appeals of varying validity, as the Norwich defender could do little about the ball hitting him.

'Prepare for 15 minutes of Chelsea attacks... every player is in Norwich's half except for Willy Caballero.

'Have to say, Norwich goalkeeper Angus Gunn, on loan from Manchester City, has been superb this evening.'

... and if we don't see no more goals, it will be over to penalty kicks.

No doubt about the big talking point in that half. Willian's case for a penalty looked a strong one but VAR didn't think it was an obvious error. Many others however do.

If last night was a success for the new technology then tonight has flagged up its massive problems.

Brilliant save by Gunn! Willian's powerful strike from the edge of the box is parried clear by the nOrwich keeper... who then moments later denies Alvaro Morata from point blank range.

Norwich are holding on desperately at the end of this first half.

Both teams get a fourth change for extra time and Chelsea use theirs by sending on Eden Hazard for Danny Drinkwater. Norwich still have two changes remaining as we enter the final five minutes of the first half.

According to the VAR panel, the Willian incident didn't lend itself to being an 'obvious error' from the referee.

I can actually see their point but in the interest of fairness I can also understand why Chelsea fans would be rather peeved at that decision. Consolation for the home side is that their side are all over the Championship side eight minutes into extra time. 

'Is Graham Scott desperate not to use VAR? From our point of view in the Press box, it certainly warranted it...

'Antonio Conte going wild on the touchline, drawing rectangles in the air.'

Drama already! Willian goes down inside the box under a challenge from Timm Klose but instead of winning a penalty he is booked for diving.

There was contact and there are strong grounds for a spot-kick to be awarded but I suspect Willian's very unnatural tumble to the ground didn't aid his case for a penalty. For the record VAR was not consulted on the issue.

Incredible scenes at Stamford Bridge but do you know what? Norwich are good value for that equaliser. They haven't given up all evening and their persistence to attack until the end of the 90 minutes has been rewarded. Now onto 30 more minutes of action...

Extra-time to be played.

In the final minute of stoppage time, and with what is effectively the last attack of the 90 minutes, Jamal Lewis glances a Timm Klose cross across goal with his head and into the corner!

We are in snooker season with the Masters well underway in London, but this is anything but masterful from Alvaro Morata.

In fact I would go as far as saying this is a bad miss, as the Chelsea striker somehow fails to turn home an inviting cross from Pedro.

Norwich back on the attack as four minutes are added on.

'Kudos to Norwich, who didn't come here just to limit their loss. Feel like they've given Chelsea a go. Could have been very different were it not for Willy Caballero.'

Four minutes to play and Chelsea make a third change as N'Golo Kante replaces Kenedy.

Norwich hand a debut to Todd Cantwell as he replaces Grant Hanley.

There are still seven minutes left at Stamford Bridge but Alvaro Morata nearly ends it as a contest as he glances a header just wide across goal following a decent Danny Drinkwater cross.

Wigan's reward for knocking out Bournemouth is a home tie against another Premier League opponent in West Ham United.

Into the last 10 minutes and Norwich are looking keen on grabbing an equaliser, so much so that Antonio Conte makes a double change - sending on Alvaro Morata and Andreas Christensen as Ethan Ampadu and Batshuayi depart.

Swansea will now visit Notts County in the fourth round

'Bournemouth fans have made a 520-mile round trip to see their side stuffed 3-0. Depressingly, they lost by the same scoreline in the same round of the Cup to Millwall last season.'

Into the last few minutes in our two 7.45pm games. Bournemouth are toast at the DW Stadium but can Wolves force extra-time at the Liberty Stadium?

Don't write Norwich off just yet. Josh Murphy's deflected strike hits the post after Chelsea fail to clear a free-kick.

Chelsea soon counter and there are huge appeals of a penalty from the home fans after Pedro goes down after skipping past Angus Gunn.

Those appeals turn to jeers after the forward is booked for diving, but replays show Graham Scott's call was the correct one.

Norwich then go close again after robbing Danny Drinkwater of the ball, but James Maddison's effort is well saved by Willy Caballero.

Just three minutes later and Callum Elder scores his first goal for the club after joining on loan from Leicester, looping in a header following a Max Power cross.

Wigan look like they are on course for recording an upset as substitute Dan Burn strikes with 17 minutes to play.

But Swansea hit back three minutes later! Wolves fail to clear Tom Carroll's cross and on hand to stab home is Wilfried Bony.

Of course five minutes after criticising him, Michy Batshuayi hits back at his critics by latching onto Kenedy's low near post cross to poke past Angus Gunn.

Wolves have also made a change, with Diogo Jota coming off the bench and grabbing an equaliser having run onto a Roderick Miranda pass before cutting inside and firing home.

'Jordon Ibe about to come on for Bournemouth..this is going to get interesting. Slippy surface making it hard for defenders.'

This is Michy Batshuayi's big audition but he is failing miserably so far. An attempt to hold up the ball in attack only results in him losing possession before then giving away a free-kick. Low key stuff so far in the second period.

'Wigan boss Paul Cook has made one change but both sides have interesting players in reserve should the need arise.

'Jordon Ibe is on the Bournemouth bench whilst Wigan have ex-Manchester United forward Nick Powell as a possibility to bring on.'

Will Grigg was on fire in the early stage sof this game but he has been hooked off seven minutes into the second period as he is replaced by Noel Hunt.

Good start to the half for Bournemouth, with Ryan Fraser denied an equaliser by Jamie Jones in the Wigan goal.

No changes at the Liberty or DW Stadium...

And it rather sums this game up that a message from the PA announcer stating that the District Line is back up and running has brought the biggest cheer of the first half.

That's now three and a half matches in a row where a game involving Chelsea has not featured a goal. Surely something will give in the second half?

''Michy, give us a wave,' sing the Norwich supporters. They're winding Batshuayi up here...'

I'm still surprised this is goalless but only because Norwich have had a couple of decent opportunities. Oliveira fires over the bar again while a promising Canaries counter attack down the left results in a poor ball across goal rolling out for a goal kick.

One of those notes might be 'avoid at all costs' though after this howler from the Chelsea striker.

A wayward pass is straight to Nelson Oliveira 23 yards out, whose shot with the outside of his boot loops over Willy Caballero only to bounce off the crossbar and over. Cracking effort.

'Very subtle from the BBC cameras to switch from David Moyes in the stands to Michy Batshuayi and back to Mr Moyes, who was making notes. Hmm.'

Honestly I'm surprised this is still goalless. Another chance for Chelsea but from a free-kick Willian curls over the bar.

'Some rather awful attempts from Chelsea in this opening half hour but that shot from Danny Drinkwater was certainly sweet. Crossbar still shaking.

'Norwich under the cosh. Antonio Conte very animated on the touchline, constantly turning around to yell something or other at his coaching staff.'

Norwich continue to hang on in there but Chelsea are getting closer. Drinkwater's long range effort is tipped onto the crossbar by Gunn, although it wasn't the most convincing save, before the Canaries scramble clear.

It's been a good response from Wolves since they fell behind. Swansea clear a corner but the ball soon finds Alfred N'Diaye who sees a shot blocked.

Only wish I could see pictures of Eddie Howe's reaction. Looking on from the background he doesn't appear to have seen the challenge on Ryan Fraser.

By the way, where's the ball here?

'Nice feisty undercurrent to this game. We've had two bookings, could have had more, and Bournemouth are rattled and fighting back.'

More problems for Norwich as David Luiz stands over a free-kick 23 yards out, but his dipping strike over the wall is straight at Angus Gunn who makes the save.

'Wigan are up for this – too up for it in the case of David Perkins who has been booked for leaving Ryan Fraser in a heap by the touchline.'

Norwich are riding their luck right now. Tiemoue Bakayoko flicks on a Kendy corner towards the backpost where Cesar Azpilicueta just misses out on sliding home.

Moments later Willian races onto a ball over the top, only to drag a shot wide across goal.

Lots of early pressure from Chelsea but the closest they have come to scoring so far has been with a Danny Drinkwater strike from 25 yards that just whistled past the post.

'Will Grigg might not be on fire, but he's still hot. A nice flick forced Artur Boric to save and Wigan skipper Samy Morsy steered home the rebound.'

Fool me for slating the slow start. Now Swansea also lead as Jordan Ayew takes the ball past a sea of Wolves defenders before firing past Will Norris.

What a start to this game for Grigg. After recovering from a knock he is back on the pitch and involved in the opening goal as his flick towards goal is beaten away before Sam Morsy converts the rebound.

'Will Grigg limps to sidelines for treatment on an injury. Enough rain in Wigan tonight to make sure nothing is on fire.'

This is about as low key as it gets in terms of starting this evening's action. Will Grigg tees up Gavin Massey who fires in a low shot that is well saved by Artur Boruc.

'If Michy Batshuayi wants to stay at Stamford Bridge, then he has to show Antonio Conte some sign of life tonight.

'Aside from two goals for the Under 21s against MK Dons in the Checkatrade Trophy in December, Batshuayi has not scored since October.

'Chelsea paid £33m for Batshuayi in the summer of 2016. For that, you can get an Andy Carroll and a half.'

There is a faulty train on the District Line serving Stamford Bridge which has led to it being part suspended.

As a result kick-off has been delayed by 15 minutes until 8pm. Norwich players had been warming up, but have now gone back into the changing room.

Despite battling relegation, Swansea boss Carlos Carvalhal makes six alterations to the team that drew 0-0 at Molineux.

The likes of Kyle Naughton, Tom Carroll, Alfie Mawson, Roque Mesa, Luciano Narsingh and Jordan Ayew all start as Mike van der Hoorn, Martin Olsson, Kyle Bartley, Wayne Routledge and Renato Sanches are left out.

Having fought back to secure a last-gasp replay, Eddie Howe makes four changes to the team that came from 2-0 down to rescue a draw at the Vitality Stadium.

In come Jack Simpson, Charlie Daniels, Marc Pugh and Harry Arter as Nathan Ake, Brad Smith, Adam Smith and Emerson Hyndman make way.

Antonio Conte makes two changes to the Chelsea team that drew the original tie at Carrow Road, including 17-year-old Ethan Ampadu.

The midfielder comes into the team along with Cesar Azpilicueta as Antonio Rudiger and Gary Cahill make way.

...because they haven't been able to find the opposition's goal in recent times. They've gone over four-and-a-half hours without scoring so it will be interesting to see who Antonio Conte trusts to end that goal drought this evening.

As I noted in the previous post, there were no upsets but there was plenty of action including hat-tricks scored in two different kits and the first ever goal awarded by VAR.
