Mass Effect: Andromeda Explores Characters in Next Combat Series Video

The new trailer details profiles, favorites, and the squad.

The second video in the Mass Effect: Andromeda combat series is out, with this new entry focusing on characters.

Players in Andromeda can unlock different character profiles as they level up, with each profile offering bonuses to different aspects of play, depending on how you want to power your way through the game. Profiles like the Adept give bonuses to biotic abilities, while the Explorer adds bonuses for more rounded gameplay in tech, combat and biotics.

Favorites is a new aspect to Andromeda that gives players access to four different loadouts, activating three specific pre-chosen abilities. These can be activated an any time during combat, although there is a brief cool down period before they can actually be used. The video shows the players using three different loadouts in the span of one rather intense combat scene.

Finally, the video delves into the team that the player will have to work with, recommending that a varied composition of abilities and specialties will make the missions easier as the team levels up and works together.

The next video in the series will deal with exploration and should drop some time next week. The first video dealt with weapons and abilities.

Mass Effect: Andromeda will be released on March 21 for PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

In a separate video release, BioWare shows Game of Thrones star Natalie Dormer doing voice-over work for her Asari character, Dr. Lexi T'Perro. It's always interesting to get a behind-the-scenes look at the motivations behind a voice actor's portrayal of a character.

Over 300 skills! Man this looks really good, I dig the new gameplay video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d3q_Nd5arZM very nice.

The RPG and ARPG mechanics look really solid and that they have a lot of depth and options I really like what I saw and what they talked about.

Awesome, thanks for the heads up on the videos and info in the article Keef!

Can't wait to play next month.

I'm kind of turned off by this...

Not sure that I like the idea of having every ability available to me, kind of removes re-playability doesn't it?

I guess we'll see but I would prefer to have specific classes so we can do some repeat playthroughs and try out new stuff, etc.

Well Diablo 3 does that right.

Don't worry its 100% fine. If you look at the video @ 16sec http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d3q_Nd5arZM&t=0m16s its not like Diablo 3 you have to use points and make your own build/point allocation they don't all magically unlock.

It doesn't have defined locked classes(that is all) that limit your skill pool choice you can pick what ever you want but you need to work you way up the trees by manually adding points. You still have to lvl up to get skill points and then use your points and cash them in to unlock your skills in what ever skill trees you want to work on.

To me this is the ultimate way to do skills right in a ARPG or RPG. I agree if all the the skills would be available that would suck and it just be another Diablo 3(not that I hate Diablo 3 btw, I just 100% prefer working trees and making decisions).

Good to know, and I agree with everything you said.

IF they are locked progressions that that is okay with me. But like you said, if everything was unlocked it would be pretty cheese.

Can't wait for this game, especially the MP, cause really ME3 was fun as hell MP w/ friends.
