Former Valve, LucasArts, And Amazon Developer Clint Hocking Returns To Ubisoft

by Kyle Hilliard on Aug 27, 2015 at 10:38 AM

After leaving Ubisoft in 2010 saying he felt "too comfortable," Clint Hocking has returned home after spending time with a handful of other notable developers.

Hocking is best known for his work on the Splinter Cell series and Far Cry 2. He worked with LucasArts before the developer collapsed, Valve on secret projects, and recently worked for Amazon and its game division. Hocking left Aamzon earlier this month. Ubisfot revealed his return to the publisher with an interview on its website which you can read here.Hocking said on his new employer's website, "Coming here and talking to the people who work here and seeing how familiar everything is, I mean, seeing familiar faces is one thing, but having familiar conversations, encountering familiar thinking, it got me excited about what we could achieve."

Regarding what he's working on, Hocking was not ready to reveal, but he did confirm it is not a new Splinter Cell.

Our Take
Ubisoft doesn't have a great track record welcoming home its heroes. Assassin's Creed creator Patrice Désilets has been at odds with the publisher for some time (you can read that story here). It seems to be a much different relationship in this scenario, however, so hopefully things will go smoothly for Hocking and he won't have relocate again anytime soon.
Hocking did his best work with Ubisoft, so it's good to see him back with the publisher.
