Metroid: Samus Returns Special Ed. In Stock Toysrus

Hm... my Best Buy copy was $10 cheaper (GCU), but arrived a bit dinged and scuffed. Worth $10 and a return to gamble on a TRU delivery arriving in better shape? The decision is right on the edge for me.

Toysrus will also ship it in a bubble mailer, so not a great gamble.

Same dilemma for me. I should have ordered it with something else so they wouldn't use a bubble mailer. Still, I ultimately decided to keep mine.

I got mine from BB in a bubble mailer and it came in perfect condition. Sorry guys! Wish you better luck next time.

I havent bought anything from TRU since the last exclusive amiibos. If you were able to get the Metroid SE from them, im happy for you. At the same time im glad TRU might be going out of business soon, if you have not heard http://fortune.com/2017/09/16/toys-r-us-bankruptcy-filing/

They have not kept up with the times. At least BestBuy has made changes to not go the way CircuitCity went out. This might be the last holiday for TRU and then everything will be on sale, which means stuff will be at regular prices  :p

The only cool part of this release is the back cover, I'm glad they didn't put one of their stickers on it so I could open and take a look. Now the crappy part is having to go buy another since I don't want to open this one. =/

Yeah, my Targets had them too and the one I pre-ordered from GameStop was dinged more than I cared for.

Really nice release though.  The reversible cover is amazing, it's an exclusive design for the sleeve period, and not a bad soundtrack selection.

gamestop couldn't find the keychains for the pre-order  I pre-ordered so I could get my crappy keychain. oh well.

I've seen, and received, too many of the freebies handed out in advance to believe they did anything differently.

I had this pre-ordered at GameStop, and even the added bonus of a Keychain there couldn't convince me to pick it up...I got the game for $32 with Best Buy can't justify $18 for a keychain, reversible cover art (as if that's something that they couldn't have done with the regular release...) and a sound selection CD (full Soundtrack or gtfo).

Maybe I'm in the minority, but I've been very underwhelmed by practically every Nintendo CE they've released in the last year, except for BotW (which I still feel was overpriced by about $20, and iirc it was just a soundtrack sampler again).
Fire Emblem Warriors is sorta tempting with the 3-disc soundtrack, but I have to ask myself if I'll ever listen to it (not likely), and Xenoblade 2 has a nice Steelbook (at least it's an official Steelbook overseas...the US release just says "metal case," which makes me think it won't quite be of the same quality)...but even if it was it's still $20 too expensive.

Sadly, those GS bonus items are always an issue, as they have so many employees across different shifts, and it's to much to keep track of. The freebies should have a list of all preorder names on a paper, and attached it to a bag or envelope holding the bonus items. Whenever someone gets an item, their name is crossed off, and you now have a record of where these things went. I learned this selling candy bars in elementary school eons ago.

It's really not a hard thing to do, but someone has to care enough to do it, and considering the GS higher ups are about the biggest crooks I've ever seen, these bonus items are always a 50/50 possibility each time. I only ever preorder when I knew someone at the store, who would make sure I got the item. In my experience, they almost always got more than needed, as I would often get some extras once all preorders had been fulfilled. And for some games, the developers would provide extra posters, etc and allow them to be given out to anyone who asked for promotion purposes.

On a few rare occasions, they would get less than required, as my friend who was a manager would often give up his personal bonus item, to cover a customers order. So it does happen, but more often than not, staff just gives out items to whomever, and don't really care if stuff goes to the right person. Or their taking them to sell on Ebay or whatever else, it just depends.

I've seen crap on ebay with their GS badge sitting right next to it. It's funny too, if you look at other items they are selling it's all GS related as well.

Apparently TRU still makes plenty of money, but the debt they had taken on years ago proved too crippling.

I worked at TRU back in the late 90s. The amount of theft by employees and the complete tolerance of it was unbelievable. I remember my manager letting friends walk out with bikes for their kids, one of the booth boys packing garbage bags with cases of psx and dreamcast systems, pulling the trash bag outside the store and replacing it with the bag of goods then coming back after hours to pick it up. The Pokémon trainer would take all the promos and eBay them. One Halloween we all got completely shit faced and worked being horrible to everyone.

It was nuts how that place was managed.

Bestbuy can choose to ship items in different packages. If you ordered 2 different games, it doesn't mean they will shipped together in 1 package. This happened to me in the past when ordering multiple items, games, etc...

It works 100%, so long as the item your buying is the same. If limits are placed on a game like this, your pretty much stuck getting other random items, which I agree, does not guarantee they ship together.

But when at least 2 of an item can be had, I'll order 2 and that insures a box in most cases, as I've never once seen two of the same items shipped from separate places. It can also be a pain to return the extra or sell it, but I've used this system in the past to great success.

Please don't say that. It may work foe you in the region that you're in, but it is not guaranteed to work for everyone across the US as the poster above you mentions. It can and will depend on where it's being shipped from (BBY store or warehouse) and whatever packaging they use is entirely dependent on person handling the shipment.

Of course what I stated was from my own experience, and the post above mine was in reference to two different games, not the exact same one. Which is also what I stated in my post, as any different items can be shipped from anywhere.

In thousands of orders over the years, I have personally never order two of the exact same item, and had them shipped separately unless size of the items was to big to fit in one box together. Which this Metroid special edition I'm sure wouldn't qualify for. That's why I clearly stated in my post, the items need to be the "same" to be shipped together, did I miss something?

My copy of Metroid SE from Best Buy shipped in a box (by itself) from a warehouse in CA. Same with my Metroid amiibo set. Both arrived minty. I was lucky, and was worried they'd come in the dreaded padded envelopes.

But both are awesome (as is the Samus New 3DS XL system). The game is a lot of fun (in 3D) even if the controls feel slightly off. And the amiibo package is beautiful. Good time to be a Metroid fan!

I agree on the controls, as it's hand acrobatics for me, as many of the things you need to do, aren't easily done(with the current control settings). Thank God I don't still have my XL, as no way I would be able to play this on that. Otherwise, I'm enjoying the game as well.
