Game of Thrones’ Natalie Dormer is in Mass Effect: Andromeda

Say hello to the nice doctor

Susana Polo is an entertainment editor at Polygon, specializing in pop culture and genre fare, with a primary expertise in comic books. Previously, she founded The Mary Sue.

Natalie Dormer, veteran of Game of Thrones, The Hunger Games and Elementary, will play an important role in Mass Effect: Andromeda — as the first person you meet in the galaxy of Andromeda.

Dormer’s character is an Asari doctor who goes by the name Lexi T’Perro, and she is the first person to greet the Andromeda’s lead when they wake from the 600 years of cryosleep that got them through the journey to a new galaxy.

“Having Lexi, sort of, almost wake you up from your 600-year sleep, and being that first friendly face that you meet ... it was very important that we treat that character in a way that you would find interest in them but also find some compassion as well,” creative director Mac Walters says of the character in one of two videos BioWare released on T’Perro and Dormer today.

T’Perro fills a similar role to the previous Mass Effect trilogy’s Dr. Chakwas — they’re both the resident doctor on the main character’s ship, and they’re both characters who the player will be able to go to for advice or personal observations on the choices they’ve made in the game so far. T’Perro might not just interact with the player, however. BioWare’s videos indicate that she’ll have a rivalry with fellow Asari character Peebee, and a crush on Krogan crewmember Drack. Walters says that these elements were part of a mission to have characters whose lives felt like they continued even when they weren’t necessarily in a scene with the player.

Dormer isn’t the only Game of Thrones actor who will make an appearance in Andromeda. In the video above, Dormer mentions that Gethin Anthony, who played Renly Baratheon in HBO’s adaptation of the series, will voice a character named Gil in the new Mass Effect.

Mass Effect: Andromeda will be released March 21, on PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One.
